Thanks ladies.
I really really intend to keep at it this time and improve with each painting if I can. I already see multiple flaws in this one, even though it's only 50% done, I've already grown a bit impatient with it.

I very much dig the influences of your personal culture in it. Often times it is said that the best art is someone reflective of the artist himself. The painting seems to indicate a desire to connect with your Thai roots and religion of those in your past lineage. Very neato. Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

The background is a complete contrast to the foreground.. seems you have paid more attention to detail of the background and painted the main woman very crudely, in a completely different style and medium.,. was that your intention? The background is a complete contrast to the foreground.. seems you have paid more attention to detail of the background and painted the main woman very crudely, in a completely different style and medium.,. was that your intention? For the most part yes. I wanted a very ornate, traditional background... sort of like wallpaper. I wanted the woman in forground to be modernist, though I didn't intend her to be so crudely painted--that's more a result of my relearning the medium than intentional, though I very much wanted the style to completely contrast with the background. I wanted the woman to be cold, not reflective of the traditional "pretty" depiction of thai women. The flower growing piercing her hand is my way of saying that the "beauty" values we traditionally place upon women is like a cross we force them to bear. I wanted the women to be beautiful but, sad and mournfully so. I have alot of work to do still.

Seriously though, I like it a lot. I hope to see more!
Could you tell us a little more about your materials? Brands/types of paint, brushes, canvas, etc? Do you enjoy any other types/ways in which you create your art? Favorite artists? Influences? Color schemes? Oh shit, my hat done fell off

Color schemes? I've painted in a few mediums over the years. All of it on pressed canvas or on stretched canvas. Great shit, man. I usually stick to "abstract", due to the fact that I'm awful at realism. It's an excuse to splatter the color everywhere without feeling completely shitty at it. Oh shit, my hat done fell off
