I watched it on HowardTV and I dont think artie will leave. First he said january, then he said he had thought of july initially. So right there he went from july to jan. By the time jan comes he'll have realized he should say there and cut down his stand up gigs.

For howard to admit he was suicidal twice
means he REALLY wants artie there.

i don't think they were fighting, but, after Artie announced he was thinking of quitting, Howard was pressing him to see a shrink before he made a decision. i didn't hear the show, though. it's just the media talking. wink

I don't have Sirius, so I haven't listened since they left terrestrial, but I liked Artie. I've still been meaning to get Sirius, though.

They'd better find a great replacement. Artie was an improvement over Jackie, whose departure I wasn't sorry to see in the least. He was a good writer, but irritating and racist on-air.

I'm totally with ya - hated Jackie and love Artie.

I didn't hear all of the show, but I don't think it's 100% that Artie'll go. He said it would be January, if so.

Get Sirius! I held out for a year and I can't believe I did! It's twice as good on satellite!

I like Artie too. He's real. He has his issues, but he is up front about everything.

Yesterday's show was so compelling and disturbing - first the Howard-Artie fight, then the announcement that Artie is on burnb-out and just needs to get his shit together... then Howard admitting to once being suicidal - - I was a WRECK - but listened to the replay all day catching the bits and pieces I missed.

Actually - the show has been EXCELLENT these past weeks - so funny, so interesting... I am bheart about Artie, though.... and he is in pretty bad shape. Hope he cna get it all together without quitting the show.

sad

crap...see I missed alot of that....I didn't know howard admitted that? omg but I'm not that surprised...howie is fragile. I hope artie can get it together too, I think his biggest health hazzard is his weight..he has gained over 100lbs in about 1 year! I really think he should go on that show "the biggest loser" They should have a celebrity edition. I think that alone would help artie greatly.
Artie tends to think the worst at first and then come around and realize he can do it. god bless em!

I've been listening to Howie since '85, so I'm a long-time Jackie fan. He was a wealth of material - his constant plugs, his cheapness, alcoholism, white-trash homes and trailer-park mentality were fodder for Howard. And Jackie was relentless when it came to goofing on Gary. their battles were legendary. The show hasn't been the same since he and Billy West left.

The way Artie's going, they'll have to bury him in a piano case. THAT'LL be some Stern show. smile
[Edited 5/25/07 22:27pm]

I've only been listening since about 96ish but I was and still am a jackie fan but just realized how tired his shtick was after artie came. I used to feel so bad for Gary when they would really beat him up..I'm actually glad gary has graduated to a level where he's not beat up so regularly. I miss studdering john! I thought he was so funny...and when he was on that TV show..."I'm a celebrity get me outta here" or what ever that was called...I fell in love with jonh...I just thought he was so great after that.

never liked Billy West; he just couldn't have sucked more, imo. but one of the funniest shows I ever heard was when they beat up on Jackie for his four crappy houses. lol

..or Howard goofing on Jackie's music, Jackie reading excerpts from Robin's book in a British accent, Jackie's blunt-rolling contest with Snoop, etc., etc. Dude was too much. Y'all can have Artie.

that was funny! as I recall jackie's definition of a blunt was much different than snoops.

What did he & Howard fight about??

From Thursday's rundown on howardstern.com:

The show started this morning with Robin saying, “Hello there jerk,” and that’s all it took. She was referring to Artie calling Howard a jerk on yesterday’s “Wrap Up Show” because he had tried to set him up with a girl who was into fat guys. Howard said he had heard the same thing and was very upset by Artie’s comment and doesn’t ever want to bring another girl in to meet Artie. Gary then piped in that they had a girl scheduled to come in next month who claims to be the female Artie, and Howard says cancel her. When Artie says that’s fine with him because he doesn’t want Howard to do him any favors like yesterday, Gary asks if he enjoyed it when Howard got Carmen Electra to let him feel her up – “uhhh, yeah!” Howard explained that he wasn’t trying to make Artie feel uncomfortable, noting that he’d set up dates for lots of his friends, including Fred with Allison and Ross with his wife Melissa. Artie said he just wasn’t comfortable in those situations and doing it on the show just made it worse. Howard then played a clip from the “Wrap Up Show” of Artie calling Rev. Bob Levy the Jeffery Dahmer of comedy and giving a diatribe against both Levy and Jen, the girl he’d brought in.

Robin tells Artie that they really weren’t trying to make him uncomfortable, to which Artie says, “Good, then shut up.” Artie went on to say that, to him yesterday’s bit was “let’s get the fat guy laid,” which he found very insulting. Fred thought Artie was having a tough time lately, with his mother telling him he could look like George Clooney...if he lost weight. Howard told Artie that he really wasn’t trying to make him uncomfortable, noting that getting girls into the studio to see how much they really were into him, was something he liked to do. Artie added that Jen’s boyfriend, Lucky, called into the “Wrap Up Show” and said he’d be upset if Jen slept with Artie, which was
enough for him. Robin, however, thought Jen and Lucky’s relationship was like the one Artie was in with the girl he’s talked about recently, and wanted to know if he thought she had a problem with him sleeping with Jen – but Artie thought she had a problem sleeping with him herself.

OUT OF THE FRYING PAN AND INTO THE FIRE

As Artie got angrier and angrier about the situation, explaining that he felt Howard exploited situations like this to make better radio, which he thought was his true motivation for bring a girl like Jen on the show. Howard assured him that was not why he did it, he was just trying to help a “bro,” which Artie thought sounded gay. Howard defended his use of the word “bro” saying that it was what he called his very good friends, but Artie didn’t think they were so close and were really just co-workers, which Howard noted wasn’t the case because he didn’t call Sal “bro.” Again, Howard said it wasn’t his intention to embarrass him and was sorry if he did. Artie said he wasn’t buying Howard’s claim that they were good friends, because they hadn’t even had any real, serious conversations off the air, which Howard called bullshit, pointing out that they had had several deep conversations. Not to be deterred, Artie says, “Yeah right, I let slip that I had a problem with heroin and the next day you’re playing my voicemail and song parodies making fun of me.”

Artie continued to complain that Howard always reveals things on the air that he doesn’t want discussed on the air – as an example Artie said he never wanted his “Vegas hooker” story revealed. However, Howard recalled that Artie gave his permission to tell that story, to which Artie replied, “yeah, after you gave me no other choice.” Artie also said Howard revealed something he had told him in confidence about Dana, which Howard admitted might be true. Yet again, Howard said he was trying to make great radio by helping a friend meet a girl, who had expressed what he believed to be a genuine interest in him, because he has always enjoyed meeting girls through the show. He went on to say that he had no idea that Artie would be insulted by the segment, and apologized for offending him...and then thanked him for being such a great employee. Artie won’t give up though, saying that Howard’s first motive was to make great radio with getting him laid being further down on his list, and felt that great radio was “let’s get the fat guy laid.” Howard replied to that by swearing on a stack of bibles and his daughters’ lives that that was not the case, and Artie noted how much a stack of bibles meant to him, but did acknowledge that his daughters meant something.

CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG

Joey Boots called in to say that he thought it was insane of Artie to not like having Howard call him “bro.” Boots explained that, as a long time fan of the show, which Artie was as well, he would be thrilled if Howard ever called him “bro.” Howard then explained that he uses the word “bro” for his closest friends like Pat Manocchia and Dr. Lou, which is why he uses it with Artie, and Artie admitted he made the comment about not wanting Howard to call him “bro” in the heat of the argument but didn’t really mean it. As the confrontation wound down, Artie pointed out that it all started when Robin tossed out the line, “Hello there jerk,” and reeled in a whopper. Finally, to “reset” the mood in the studio before the break, Fred played the theme from “Friends” in the background.

No it wouldn't. Remember when Howie had a weight-loss contest(sponsored by Bally's) on his show for Gangi, Gary, Benjy & Artie? They worked with trainers & everything, and Artie was the only one who GAINED weight! Like Josh said, he's a whining jerk who's too lazy to get up off his fat ass and improve his situation. He's upset about being goofed on? Tough! This ain't the Oprah Show - it's the Howard Stern Show. Sh!t, one time Howard called Sam Kinison early in the morning to ask him if he really fell asleep while doing Jessica Hahn. The show is about being raw, irreverent and sometimes harsh - if Artie can't take it, leave. Jackie had his issues, but I never found him annoying like Artie.

Yeah... and then gained like 100 pounds - he's up to 303 now. He was still with Dana after he had his crisis with heroin - he recoverd, but when she begged him to get therapy to confront his inner-demons he refused and they finally split after a long, dragged-out break-up.

I love Artie - and I feel the show has really gotten better and funnier since he's been on (no offense to Jackie). If he really leaves, I'll be bummed neutral
