COLLEGE ALBUMS I've noticed for years in the back of Rolling Stone magazine(and others) that they have a list for "College Albums."
What exactly is that? I notice that the albums under the listing of "College Albums" tend not to be mainstream music...what exactly is College Albums?

'College Rock' was a term in the 80's though the early 90's that was slapped on "alternative" acts like REM, The Smiths, XTC, The Cure, etc...
I assume that they used this term because College radio stations gave a significant amount of airplay to bands like this. Occupy Alphabet Street!

Thats exactly what it means....since most college radio stations don't sell much (if any) ad sponsorship time, they're not tied to playing top 40 or hot list only.....so lots of "underground" acts get their music played....one of my fave stations back in the day was WTUL, Tulane University's radio station....great mix of hip hop, alternative, reggae, Latino....whatever....all day.... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.
(George Eliot) the video for the above... http://www.youtube.com/wa...re=related
