Yup, it's Venus. You can tell it's a planet because it doesn't twinkle. Stars are so much further away that the light that reaches Earth is more distored, so they twinkle. The light from planets is steady.

Sirius, the dog star, is the brightest star in the sky. It's the eye of Sirius, the dog of Orion and it's located to the left of Orion's belt.

That photo was taken later before the moon set behind the mountians

Venus was closer to the tip when it was higher in the sky here
