National Women's Health Week

The 8th annual National Women's Health Week will kick off on Mother's Day, May 13, 2007, and will be celebrated until May 19, 2007. National Women's Check-up Day will be Monday, May 14, 2007.

National Women's Health Week encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life. The theme for National Women's Health Week 2007 is "It's Your Time: Pamper Your Mind, Body and Spirit." During the Week, families, communities, businesses, government, health organizations and other groups work together to:

*celebrate the extraordinary progress in women's health
*bring attention to and create understanding of women's health issues
*encourage women to get regular check-ups
*provide free or reduced screenings for women nationwide
*educate women about steps they can take to improve their physical and mental health and prevent disease

Speaking of I'm months past due for a pap smear. I canceled my appointment months ago, because my period came on during my appointment, and I've never gotten around to rescheduling it. redface

The healthcare system I work for is giving away free mammograms to women without insurance and we're putting on a two-day women's health festival. I'm putting materials together for it now.

That's awesome

I am so glad I went for mine last week ... it was such a breeze and not the experience I had always heard it may be

Just got my mammo and bone density checked today. The mammogram is now digital and more comfortable. A pad is placed on the bottom plate and no more bead placement.
had my pap 2 weeks ago.
Now if I can only face the colonoscopy I'm overdue for....It's the prep that's so awful.

do it baby yay! .. what is so awful about the prep?

It's a bowel prep. You have to drink a bottle of stuff that cleans you out so the GI doc can visualize the bowel for polyps, inflammation and any abnormalities. You can only drink clear liquids the day before.....

No, and it's recommended at the age of 50 for a baseline. If it's normal then you don't need one for another 10 years.
Unfortunately, I've assisted with the procedure, for those who require an anesthetic. We have a special procedure room. Most colonoscopys are done in the department with sedation. For peds and certain adults, general anesthesia is needed and done in our department. There's alot of gas and cramping afterwards. There's a slight risk of perforation or bleeding.
Which reminds me, when I get it schheduled, I'm requesting a pediatric scope. None of those hoses.

I hate IV's too. (don't laugh) You need one for the sedative.
