Dreams of those who have passed

Some of you know that over the past month or so my family and I have been dealing with my sisters' death.

I've found lately...more frequently...that I'm having dreams about her. The dreams are similar to the ones I had when my dad passed away...different scenarios where we (my family and I) find that she hasn't died after all...or has come back to life somehow.

Has anyone had these kinds of dreams when one of their loved ones has passed away?

My maternal grandmother (who was the only grandparent I really knew) shows up in my dreams, but not in that way. But I do occasionally dream that a childhood friend who committed suicide is still alive.

I was asking my mom about this and she said, "Have you noticed that they never talk?"

I hadn't thought about it...but, she's right.

I just wonder if these dreams are our mind's way of trying to make sense of what has happened.

I once dreamt of my paternal grandfather standing beside my bed. The perception of him was extremely intense, yet even in my dream I had an awareness of his having already passed on and that his presence didn't make sense.

What awoke me his saying my name - I was literally jarred from sleep because I believed I'd heard a voice yet there was no one else in my home, nor was anyone outside calling for me as I thought perhaps might be the case due to how strongly I believed I actually had heard someone speak my name.

Though I loved my grandfather, he and I were not especially close and I didn't recall consciously thinking of him in the immediate days prior, so why I'd dreamt such a dream, seemingly for no explainable reason, perplexed me. Yet for quite awhile afterwards I could not shake the feeling my grandfather had been there, and had reached out to me.

i had the same damn dream for years after my sister died. she was 18, i was 10 when she died in a car accident.

she died in manitoba so in the dream i am walking down the street in winnipeg when i see her. i call out to her dumbfounded that she is still alive! however she ignores me. she won't look at me and tries to walk past me. (and no, she doesn't speak lol) i get increasingly angry that she won't acknowledge that she is my sister and that she has deceived us and caused us pain on purpose. utterly crushed, i walk away.

i know that the dream was a result of me blaming her for leaving me and my feelings of being abandoned by her death. the dream happened frequently in my teens and even occasionally into my early twenties. i guess when i finally came to terms with it the dream stopped.

we feel helpless and even though our rational brain can process the reality our emotional brain is still working through our feelings. sweeter, happier dreams to you. rose

i have had dreams about my sister and my dad, my mom told me that she had dreams of them but they kept running away from her, i think that is because she still has a hard time letting go of them and they are telling her to let go.

Yes, I dream of my Grandad and Grandma

I often had dreams of my nana who died when I was 13 was walking down the street, and still very much alive, and I used to call out to her but she wouldnt hear me. Or she was at home, and I didnt realise our whole family cut her off, and she cut herself off from society and I find myself in her house and she has been alive all this time after all, and we have missed out on 22 years.

sad

I have a recurring dream, still to this day about one of my best friends who faked her own death and she comes back, and I am so angry at her, that I believed all this time that she was dead, all the tears I have shed over her and the grief.. I just dont want to talk to her anymore.
Infact she really did die when she was 19.
Am I still in denial? Or wishing them to come back to me? Or are they telling me that they still are very much alive, and try to tell me that in my sleep?

I dont know.. sad

Spirits have no need for voice because that is a "Human reaction" they are not human anymore they are energy, spirits if you will there is no need for something so small as vocalizing.

dreams are deeper than just that, yeah granted they are subconscious movies that play in your head but sometimes it goes deeper than that, sometimes its actually astral travel, we all have the power to do it the trick is finding your way back.

See, I am very intune to my dreams and what they may or may not represent. When I try to discuss this with family, they shun me and say its a load of rubbish, but I dont believe it is.. its something deeper as you say.. it must be..

I mean when Sophie was killed I was distraught, maybe I never got over it, and she is telling me she is fine. Or maybe in my dreams I am willing her to tell me she really isnt dead, and it was a bad practical joke.. ?

I dunno.. shrug

its all about "cross current" and connection to people living and not alive anymore we still have those connections to them and those who are not here with us, still feel those connections but as they move on we must too

When I speak to say, my sister about this, she just laughs and says I am mad. And I ask, but dont you miss them> and she says they are dead, gone.

To be honest, without disrespecting my sister, I do believe that I had very close realtionships with my nana, my sister was too young to really remember, but nanas death hit me hard. And my Grandma too, we were very very close and I know my Grandma really really loved me, but there was something else that she loved about me, something indescripable, just something between me and her..

I can feel her smiling now at me, is that silly?

Weird. Before Sophie died, we were both apart cos we were a different universities, but we would write to each other often, and I was looking forward to Christmas cos we would meet up during the holidays.

In her last letter to me she wrote that she was getting flying lessons, but jokingly said, "Knowing my luck, I will probably crash into my Mums house"

A week after receiving the letter, I heard news that on Boxing Day her and her brother were driving back from their Dads house (their parents were separated) and they were involved in a horrific car crash.. Sophies brother was driving, but the steering wheel protected him, while Sophie was killed instantly.

I wonder ..

I've had dreams of my grandparents who have passed on. In fact, I just had a dream about my grandfather a few nights ago, come to think of it. Sometimes they talk in my dreams, and sometimes they don't.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Every once in a while, I still have dreams where my dad is there. And it's weird, because I know he's been dead and yet he's there, and that realization in my dream disturbs me. Then I wake up and I realize I've had "that dream" again. confused

But the most amazing dream I had was when Rachel was pregnant with Shawn (our first child) back in 1995 and it wasn't too long after we found out and hadn't told anyone yet. I dreamed I was in this very large and hilly region with lots of trees. In there was my grandparent's house (they had both died in 1988). I noticed there were small groups of people in the area that were just hiking, but I had gotten a sense that they were holy people. Anyway, I go into the house and my grandma is there, and we start chatting. I told her about the new car we had recently gotten, and she was pretty inquisitive about it so I gave her all the details. Then I told her that Rach and I were having a baby, and right away she goes "Oh, I already know about that." I was like eek . We chatted a little longer and then I left...and woke up.

Hey Girl...I didn't know about your sister. hug

Anyways, I'm sure you remember with the loss of your Dad. You have dreams about them every night for a period of time, I believe because that is ALL that is on your mind morning and night following the loss.

Then I noticed that when I am going through rough times I will dream of my dad frequently. I don't know if that is your subconcious mind trying to sooth you or what, I'm sure everyone has different theorys....
