Discomfort from wearing flats might also have to do with particularly tight calf muscles and/or short Achilles tendons. And, unfortunately, wearing heals too much actually promotes these things. My mother-in-law has worn heels almost daily since high school, and now when she wears flats for too long she gets unbearable pain in her feet and the backs of her legs. I walk okay in them but if I mistakenly wear them on a long night of standing, you can definitely tell I went out for dinner with a friend and a friend of hers when I was pregnant and her friend told her afterwards, "She's the only 7 months pregnant women I have ever met that still wears fishnets and stiletto boots." I dunno if he was impressed or mortified. That's awesome actually

My only real problem with heels is that I can't wear one much over 3" because my feet are so small. The pitch for a 4" heel on a 6-1/2 shoe is a liiiiittle steep. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

[Edited 5/17/07 21:43pm] My grandmother could only wear heel when she was in her 80's even as her calf muscles had shortened from years of wearing them. |

I love high heels but for many years I stuck to the chunkier thicker heels. I bought my first pair of stilettos 3 years a go for my 31st birthday. They were a pair of Via Spiga strappy sandals and at the time the most expensive pair of shoes I'd ever bought at $200. Sufficed to say, I ain't been right since and haven't looked back cuz I'm ALL about the stiletto heel and it has to be at LEAST a 3.5 inch heel. Oh and I used to dance back in the day and one of the reasons I quit was seeing what my friends' feet, who'd been dancing longer than me, looked like. It was really gross what those pointe shoes did to their fee.
I always had a strut in my walk anyway (when I walk in public I'm playing Prince's "It's About That Walk" in my head. ) but when I wear stilettos it's OVAH!!! And I KNOW I'm on somebody's runway. I think there's a definite mental boost that goes along with the boost in height. I've always been partial to high heeled boots. But after Prince noticed and touched my giraffe print pony hair boots on New Year's Eve ("I like your boots, those are hot.") and then him and Sheila were checking out my red patent leather boots in March, I realized that the shoe fetish was really in it's infancy and will be getting progressively worse as I embark on a quest to outdo myself. To make matters worse I stumbled upon the world's best shoe store at www.zappos.com NOW it's really over. . . I may be needing an intervention soon. Here are my current favorite shoes: 3.5 inch heel 4 inch heel

I remember always being mad that they didn't really have heels in the little girl's section - when I finally started wearing women's shoes I realized how much more comfortable they were than girl's shoes because heels were more available. Sounds crazy. That's why I think you're right that the arch of the foot has a lot to do with it. There's really not much other that I can think would explain it I do wonder about the arch thing because my ex-fiance has the highest arch I've ever seen and he walks in stiletto heels better than I do! I have a very high arch and heels absolutely kill me. I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm heavy, but during my high school anorexic phase, they were still uncomfortable. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

I've got a good balance now since I wear mostly flats at work. I feel very comfortable in both now.

Although, I do love pointy toes...they're more comfortable if they don't have an insane heel on them. I have a couple of pairs of boots like these in black...no buckle...

So I went with the red patent leather to spice things up. I LOVE his shoes. Quality made shoes can also make a huge difference in how well you tolerate high heels. Keeping in mind that expensive doesn't always mean quality made. [Edited 5/18/07 8:31am]

I'm wearing these to the Prince concert tomorrow. The pics do not do them justice. They color is so much richer and more beautiful in person. Oh, and they sparkle!

Just be glad y'all weren't at the court of Versailles. Back in the day, they didn't make shoes in left/right. Both sides were built on the same last and you had to give them shape just by wearing them.
And nobody ever sat down at court. I'm surprised they could stand, at all, by the time they were middle-aged. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm telling you, THAT man has serious fetish for ladies shoes. I coulda died when he touched my boot. Plus, I'm sure ya'll have seen the pics of him sitting next to Eva Longoria at the All-Star game and she's showing him her shoe and they're obviously talking about them. I love him to death but Princey can be such a queen sometimes and that's DEFINITELY a compliment.
