in last nights recap special the producers ruled out the purgatory theory

They did that in Season One. They were pretty definitive of what is happening. I think the Catch 22 for LOST is that the audience trusts nothing they see, so everything keeps surrounded in mystery. They also want everything they see and experience to be explained down to the finest detail instead of leaving some things to the imagination/interpretation...like most sci-fi stories will do.

they dispelled the purgatory theory in season one?

So you don't consider the Looking Glass Station finale a big WTF? I was so unexpecting a big ass station with people in it.

Yes, I wasn't expecting that either....who are these people? Do the instruct Ben & his crew or is this a complete different party??

For the rest, this episode was somewhat filler.....a bit disappointing for the second las of the season.....I don't that the season's finale will go into detail on the Looking Glass Station or Charlie's upcoming death.....

WHo those people were, I have no clue. Yes this was a slightly disappointing for the next to last episode.

Next weeks episode is called "Through the Looking Glass" so I imagine it WILL give us detail on it. It's also Jack's flashback (which better be good, cuz I am t.i.r.e.d. of his story). Charlies death...not so sure...

I do know 5 were to be killed by season end on both sides. Lockes dad was one of them.

Here's my prediction on the 4 who might bite it...

Rose - I really really hope not. I'd love to see her become a regular.

Bernard - I can really really see this happening. It'd be more compelling if he goes and not Rose

Charlie - Predicted...Brutha

Sayid - Huge complainer on set and in Press

Tom (Mr Friendly) - Sawyer alwasy said he and "Zeke" ain't done. I like Tom but if there is a sacrifice on the other side...My bets are on him.

Karl - Again this would break up a couple for dramatic effect.

Mikhail aka Patchy - As much as I would LOVE LOVE to see him open the next season (instead of the eye, it'd be a patch...LOL) he may just bite it again.

Kate - This would be HUGE. But Evangeline Lilly has mentioned that she doesn't like the fame.

they dispelled the purgatory theory in season one?

After the first episode, that was the number 1 theory. They dispelled it sometime in season one and have been repeating it like a Mantra since. For some reason, people keep thinking this is the answer and it's not.

I do think this though...it's an "inbetween" place. and that is as close to purgatory it gets.

For everything to be wrapped up and for there to be an answer to everything would make of the show just simple sci-fi, which is fine I guess.

But there are things in the show that quite simply can't have answers, which is what makes the show so good and so smart. The combination of the desire to know and the loss inherent in not, never knowing is what the show is about.

I hope the writers can make of it more than simple sci fi and resist the temptation from within and the clamor from without to answer all questions.

It's already more than simple sci-fi. The issue lies in how deep do you go with a television audience that is used to the quick and easy and simple to understand.

I also think they'll never answer all of the questions. They tend to answer the with hints anyway. But what they DO and what they DO NOT answer is a fine line between NEED to tell and WANT to tell. There's going to be a difference between the audience and the story tellers on that one. For instance I think they NEED to tell what the numbers are, but not what is up with Vincent the dog, which I think is merely symbolic of something and should be open to interpretation.

Very nicley said, you ambient goon.

I've always felt that the show had all the makings of a conspiracy theory, and that that's what was attracting people to it. But it's really amazing how the show resists that kind of overdetermination even as it draws you in to the formula. Even though it's really choppy and at times inconsistent, it has all the elements of really good storytelling -- like 1001 Nights, where the point was that things would NEVER end!

For me, it's the combonation of story telling, filming & production. Everything, from the names of the characters to the symbols and books... is almost a reference to something else. Layers and layers of nuance exist in the dialogue. And pretty much everything falls into one theme or another. But it is how these themes tie into one another and co-exist with the overall plot is what makes it a remarkable show.

The shows inconsistancy will always make it one tick of being the best. But at the end of it all, when we know all there is, I think we'll be able to look at it as being one of the best stories told.

The actor hasnot been identified. It has been speculated that it was someone from Carnivale.

Yeah? That guy that Desmond replaced in the hatch was from Carnivale.

And I'm betting on Walt's return.

And yeah, I'll bet Bernard and Rose get knocked off.

And as far as Evangeline Lilly saying she doesn't like the fame rolleyes That's just p.r.

How can you tell? I mean, it could be. But I don't think you can tell if that flash of Jacob and this guy look much alike.

Jacob's floppy hair looked kind of like Desmond's. Maybe Desmond is time-warping, I mean, with his visions and all.

It'll be a year before we find out anyway. After next week's finale, no more new episodes until January. confused

Well, his name is Jacob. And the guy's bone structure (nose and eye socket into his forehead) are pretty uniquely similar. Scroll down to the last photo titled "Vanderfield being released". Really looks like the same guy to me....

I remember reading somewhere last Summer that Michael and Walt would return at the very end of this season.

I totally don't trust Juliet, though I like her. Obviously, whatever she's up to, she's only doing it so she can get off the island and go home. Who could blame her?

I read a spoiler on next week's episode. If true, Jack's flashbacks are going to be shocking.

Two hour episode! I can't wait!!!

I think I may have read the same spoiler.
And Juliet has been my favorite character this season. I hope she ends up screwing Ben over and I hope she's the one who kills him.
