Here's one source on the falls discussing which are whose, etc: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...gara_Falls

But, yeah, "claiming" land that none of us has made is a bit odd. At any rate, I think the falls are great on both sides of the border! thumbs up!

I'll second Bill Shatner.
But, we can't forget Alan Thicke, Geddy Lee's nose, Corey Hart's "comeback" Christian music album, Tracy and Shannon Tweed, The King Of Kensington, and NW Ontario winters.

There's my 7...

Reincarnate

I vote for these two, which fulfill all of the criteria in my book:
* Essential 'Canadian-ness' - historically significant, character filled, valued
* Originality/uniqueness of the pitch and place
* Spectacular physical site or amazing human creation
* Ability to inspire
* Range within the final seven - diversity of location, type of wonder

wink

One nice thing about the American Side, the falls themselves are surrounded by a park.

nod I like both sides but the American side is more natural and you can walk right by the rapids. The formal gardens on the Canadian side are nice but walking around Goat Island and Three Sisters Islands when there aren't many people around is really beautiful too .
I love the Falls in the winter, everything ices over and it's like an enchanted land.

I've read that around 50 people a year at least try to commit suicide here by going in the water. It always takes three days for the bodies to surface.
There's a spot where the local teens go swimming on Three Sisters Island. It's surprising more of them don't get pulled over the Falls.

That's awful. And in fairness, I'm sure that sort of thing happens on both sides of the border.

I didn't bother to read the thread because it's a little Canada-centric, but if someone hasn't mentioned JustErin's hair, well, they should have.

I was watching TV once and a news reporter was reporting with the falls behind him and an old man with a beard jumped in behind him and went over the falls. The reporter FREAKED and it was all live on TV. The look on the suicidal man's face was one of humor. He was kind of smiling and looked bemused. Creepy.
