I used to work with a woman who wore so much foundation, When she'd use the work phone, The earpiece would have all that brown powder all over it. It was disgusting. As a man I can tell you that too much make-up is NOT very attractive at all.So tell me what your reasons are for wearing makeup? Is it societal pressure or self esteem issues? I don't wear makeup as much as I used to. As I got older my skin changed. I'm good with a lil bit of base, powder.mascara, liner and lipstick. Most of the time I just go with powder. My skin is so flipping oily that 10 min after I wasked it I look like someone just covered me in vasoline. I swear by MAC powder to help control it.

My skin heals over with thick dark scars when it gets cut or scraped, so I was devestated when I hit the pimply teenage years. Alot of the scars are still visible several years later. I could never find makeup in my color when I was a teen, and it really hurt my self confidence. I felt like people were always staring at me. When I worked at a store, there were a few times when little kids would ask, "What happened to your face?" Their parents were mortified, but I always told them that I had an owie. It was horribly embarassing.
The scars aren't as bad now, but I do feel more confident when I put a thin layer of foundation on, to even out my skin tone. Strangely enough, Prince's ex-wife helped me pick out the kind I wear now. After being married to Prince, I'm sure she's an expert on makeup now. I just looked at your profile picture and I think you are gorgeous!!!

Foundation, lips, eyes... people always tell me how great/beautiful my skin looks - my SKIN, not my MAKEUP - it's HOW you wear it that's key. Makeup evens out my skintone & enhances my features (or makes them pop depending on the shade). All those "natural" looking women in magazines have on a full face of makeup For some it's a little boost to their self esteem, I know I feel better when I have it on b/c I know I look better. How shallow of me! MAC.. I tried MAC but it turned to an oil slick on my face. Love their lipsticks though. I've been using Bobbi Brown for over 10 years now. What struck me was that she had sooooo many shades of foundation and being a dark skinned sista I wasn't automatically directed to the darkest shade of foundation. That may not sound like much but when you grew up wearing Fashion Fair makeup that only came in FOUR shades, but was the only option for a dark skinned girl back then, finding Bobbi Brown was like the heavens opening up with a choir of angels singing. It finally got me away from Fashion Fair that turned to a God awful red tone on my face.

You should really consider Bobbi Brown. Oprah wears her makeup and I'm sure you've seen pics of her without makeup on. But when she wears it I don't think she looks overdone. Bobbi Brown is great because they have such a huge range of shades which is often a issue for black women since we come in so many different shades.

I still haven't found the right shade for my skintone. The MAC foundation I've been using is close, but still not quite right. I have a tough time because I have brown skin with yellow undertones. The closest brown shades always have peachy undertones, and make me look orange. Or, I get a shade with yellow undertones, and it's too light. Then there are the horrible ones that make me look ashy. It sucks, especially since it costs so much. Wanna hear me sing?

I will be loyal to MAC forever, plus I love their return thing they do with bringing back your empties to recycle and give you a free lipstick.
