MAKEUP......DECEIT OR PERCEPTION?

Makeup?? What are the reasons for makeup? In my opinion it is just deception on many levels right? I mean, you are wearing it to enhance or hide something. Why not just be what you are and let that be your beacon to the world/masses to behold and love?

So tell me what your reasons are for wearing makeup? Is it societal pressure or self esteem issues?

I built my muscle for basketball purposes ONLY....and that is the truth....my coach MADE ME HIT THE WEIGHTS.....

I go to the gym to stay in good shape, not for the ladies....the ladies are a bonus!

And women go to the gym as well.

Mach

I do not wear make up often and when I do it's not a lot

I use it to accent ... batting eyes specially

Just a tad to make my already incredible eyes pop out more

Why

Because I like to use it when I like to use it...for me

wink

I go to the gym for aesthetic reasons (the health benefits are just a bonus).

I guess my point is, if we all went "au naturel", the hairstyling, razor and deodorant businesses would all be extinct.

Dido!
I wear makeup to enhance my eyes and because it makes me feel a little more "dressed up" for working in an office and going out on a special night but I dont wear alot of makeup and most of the time people say they can hardly tell the difference from when Im wearing it or not other than my lip gloss but it just makes you feel good just like going for a manicure or a pedicure or a massage, you dont need to but it feels great and can make your whole day or even week in some cases.

I wear makeup mainly because I'm fair skinned and blonde. I have blonde eyelashes and they are almost invisible without mascara, so I wear it regularly. Because my skin is fair too, I like to wear rouge/blush to give my skin a bit of a glow. I like to wear lip gloss mostly to keep my lips moist.

So it is about aesthetics then? Aesthitics to me is dressing up nicely, but to hide shit or enhance something that is not entirely yours is just deception.

I wear corrective cosmetics because I have acne. If I did not have that issue I would just wear a little makeup like a mascara.
I would love to be one of those women that wakes up naturally beautiful but I was not blessed that way- oh and I am pale skinned so a little blush helps now and then.

highfive

anothers opinion on makeup is in no way going to make me feel I have low self esteem or that I am hiding something when in my heart I know their perception of make up and the whys it may be worn is true only for them and those that may feel the same

lol I do not share that perception at all

Most women don't wear makeup to "hide" things; they wear it because it's social custom, designed to enhance certain attributes. To call it "deception" is to imply that men don't realize it's makeup, no?

I rarely wear makeup. If I do, I wear a sheer foundation, some blush, eyeliner and mascara. I wear it to enhance what I have sexy

I wear make-up for the same reason I choose to wear the clothes and do my hair the way I do. Aesthetics and self-expression. I feel more me in clothing than I do without. I feel more me as a red head than I do with my natural washed-out light brown hair color. From the oldest of times people have use make-up, jewelry and clothing as adornment. I wouldn't call it deception. It's all still me. Even more me cause I'm making the conscious choice.

I think a worse deception is platic surgery. Imagine you look forward to your daughers having their mother's perfect Halle Berry Nose and they come out as Streisands lol

I wear make-up, but very, very little. I have never been one to wear a lot, however I do agree with Carrie that it is a form of self-expression....

And, like Mach, what make-up I do wear is worn for me....as are my clothes, shoes, hair - I do what makes me feel good at the time.

If someone is using make-up to build self-esteem, what is so wrong about that? I am all about feeling good about yourself, and if some make-up can do that for you, have at it.

cool

I wear make up sometimes when I want to feel like a super model doing my thing! Why not? Well, also because in picuteres I might look too pale (even though I am not), but I wear lipstick sometimes because I have small lips.
