You can still be a good lay, man. part of me thinks i'm undervaluing the quality of myself that DOES tolerate the annoying behavior day after day, and that in itself is a battle won on a regular basis. but it's not much of a victory when inside, there's a little ren the chihuahua in my head turning all red and veiny and screaming YOOOOU EEEEDIOTS!!!! i think i'd be much worse off if i gave in and engaged in the toxicness. if i can somehow internalize that fact a little deeper, i'm sure i'll be golden. So you're patient, forgiving, at least outwardly, and pretty easy going. I suppose it would all depend, then, on how much grief this internalizing causes you and whether it significantly affects how you view other people in general. I'm pretty sure all but the most blunt person knows the feeling of letting things go when they wish sometimes they could just say what they feel. Who are you keeping that inside for more, you or them?

I'm pretty sure all but the most blunt person knows the feeling of letting things go when they wish sometimes they could just say what they feel. Who are you keeping that inside for more, you or them? Oh, for them, definitely. I'm not trying to brag on myself here, but I have a kind of merciless talent for dressing people down...which is why I don't ever do it if I can help it. And it's not out of spitefulness or hatred - it's a manifestation of frustration, like "okay...nobody in your ENTIRE LIFE has told you about this really hideous flaw you have SO NOW I WILL." And really - I don't want to put that kind of investment in these people. I don't want to be responsible. I don't want to handle their mess, even if I have to tip-toe around it every day. And, I suppose to a lesser extent, I keep it inside for me, because in the larger picture I don't want to endure the ramifications of engaging with them. Some bitchy comments out of my mouth aren't worth having to deal with their reaction for weeks/months/whatever on end. The question of internalization is an interesting and troubling one.

Lately I've had to deal with people on a regular basis who have decided it's time to blur the personal and the professional, and by God, they're bound to include me in the process. And they employ really stupid, passive-aggressive tactics like talking to each other very near me and making "random" mentions of my name, or dropping other "cues" that I'm clearly supposed to respond to. And I really want NO part of it. Furthermore, I'd love it if they would gladly KNOCK IT OFF before I am forced to start reading pedigrees. Is there a gentle, compassionate, "you are of the universe and thus I love you" way of saying to someone, LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE ? Or should I just keep on with the oblivious/silent treatment and hope they eventually get the hint? Or should I start engaging in the conversations like they're trying to get me to do, and casually point out every single infuriatingly ignorant comment I hear? Or is Xanax the answer? What type of comments??? Be specific. Are you talking about gossip? PAY ATTENTION HERE!!!!!
