when i did rocky horror (how the fuck do i keep getting these kinds of roles?!?!) i would sprint through the theatre in heels during the part of the show i was chasing rocky. people were always amazed by it, the reviews even mentioned it.

no idea how or why i picked up the talent, but i am suprisingly much more graceful in big heels than i am in my day-to-day sneaker life.

as far as character, i am still working on it. i kind of want to play him a bit more schizo than the person i am (probably) replacing was. the script is full of "darling, i love you- I WILL KICK YOUR ASS ORPHAN!" type moments of quick turn from sweet as pie to mean as nails. i almost want to play him a bit less drag queen and a bit more semi-masculine transvestite, like an angry eddie izzard.

it's going to be all about balancing the masculine and feminine sides of him.

but, i need to see what they want.

I think that sounds spot on...now that I'm thinking of it, that's sort of the essence of the orginial Fagan...he lured Oliver in with his brnad of grandfatherly kindness and then would turn on him when he couldn't manipulate out of Oliver what he wanted.

i was telling cubic i have netflixed several version of oliver and am going to reread the book. i have not seen or read it since i was a wee thing.

in this version, fagin is still using the boys as pick-pockets, but now the twist on it is that he is also in a long-term fairly abusive relationship with dodger, who falls for oliver as does fagin, and thus the romantic triangle between all 3. when he loses dodger to olly and can't get olly either he goes pretty bezerk.
