I am off to ogle a large smelly flower! Hello people!
This afternoon I shall be experiencing for myself the notoriously malodourous charms of the Titan Arum, so nicknamed the "Corpse Flower" due to the distinctive stinky fragrance of the gigantic plant's big bloom. This giant bizarre plant appeals to my inner Seymour Krelborn. I can't wait to see it!

Well now, I do understand the cause for your confusion, especially if Bjork also is quite pungent. If the plant tries smashing my head to the floor when I take its photograph, then we'll have our answer.

Moderator | That flower is freaking awesome! In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I've heard of this thing...it blooms very rarely...like once a year or once every few years.

Yes, it was an amazing sight to behold, though more than few visitors beheld it while holding their nose.

The plant in that picture does indeed resemble an ear of corn. Here's another photograph of a Titan Arum more in bloom:

If her hats smell like this flower, I recommend that she immediately see a physician. Or a mortician.

These plants can have a lifespan of 40 years and yet blossom only a few times. Seeing one in bloom is a rare opportunity.

Yes, the smell was quite strong and nauseating though this particular plant began its two-day bloom yesterday and reached its peak by noon or so today, and so I missed it at its most intense stench. By later afternoon/early evening, the odor was lessening but still terrible, akin to dead animal and feces. Most visitors I saw handled the odor well - even the children - though there was still gagging and amusing face-pulling. Too bad the cam you found is not in Smell-O-Vision so you could get the full experience! [Edited 5/13/07 21:54pm]

That sounds like something I'd have fun doing.
I don't even know why since I despise nasty smells...but it's something I'd love to experience. Even though I'd probably never want to go back and see it again. HE'S COMING AGAIN
