LA's Griffith Park in Flames

Griffith Park is burning out of control in LA. They've evacuated the Zoo sad and The Griffith Park Observatory (just recently renovated) was the filming site of "Rebel Without A Cause" is threatened. Lots of houses are close by as well.

It has been very dry and windy here in LA - 95% downtown, which is just east of this area. We've only had 3 inches of rainfall this year for christ's sake.

Global warming....

I saw this from our work windows! I can't believe it's that close to the observatory cry I hope they get it under control because there is so much around there to be destroyed sad

It's very scary. The Greek Theater is also up in that neighborhood as well. They are preparing to evacuate homes.

I can hear the constant hum of airplanes and helipcopters.

sad it's so awful.

Has this ever happened before? I know there was a fire up there a month or two ago, but I thought this crazy stuff was always outside of L.A. confuse

I just got out of the Vista(saw Spiderman 3) and the flames were visible from Sunset. Helicopters everywhere and fire trucks going crazy. I can't believe CNN's website has nothing on this.

There was a fire in March in the park, near Toluca Lake... but they got it controlled pretty fast. I can't remember when a fire of this calibre has ever taken GP like this... it's burned 300 acres already.

BTW: The Vista - FAVORITE theater in LA.

Yeah, I like it. I saw Grindhouse there, too. The only problem(besides only showing one film at a time) is they only let people in a few minutes before the movie and I got there early, dying of thirst. It was incredibly hot today. And their bottled drinks aren't cold, which I've noticed isn't unusual around here. There's another theater in Los Felix(forget the name) that sells bottled water, but it's not cold and you get a little cup with ice. Can be tough to carry all of that stuff if you get food, too.

For either theater, or do you just mean the Vista? This is good to know.

The Vista. The manager told me I could go to the Von's that's across the way and get a Starbuck's coffee since they don't serve any hot drinks... except for the water, I guess. lol
