I happened to like this movie. I'd rate it about as high as #2. Of course, they couldn't bring the symbiote in like they did in the comics and opted instead for the meteor bringing him to earth, and I would have liked to see more Venom, but I think there was a LOT of character developments/interactions that sometimes blurred the lines between good and evil. Yes, it was more dramatic, and some people get pissed off about that, but it makes for a better movie than one that is too much action (to which a lot of critics point to Star Wars Episode II). As for the actors playing the parts, I really didn't have a problem with who they cast and have cast. Some people get too hung up on the actors themselves to where they want to see any faults they can find. I'd probably do that, too, if I somehow lost my friggin' mind and went to a Tom Cruise movie. razz

All in all, the hollywood spiderman is much too powerful, he's not human/vulnerable enough.

that's funny, too, because on the surface he's vulnerable, playing the nerd role. But you're right, he is like superman in these movies. He practically can't be hurt.

I love that first encounter/fight with the Sandman, now if spidey got out of the van a whole lot more shaken up and confused I'd have been satisfied with the scene.

far too super not nearly human enough

yeah, he's not really hurt, he has sand in his costume.

But he delivers a pretty good line "where do all these people come from?" lol

I didn't like Batman Begins. I thought Christian Bale was a bad choice to play Batman in that he didn't look right at all. His chin was too pointy and he spoke out of the side of his mouth with almost a lisp. The story wasn't bad, but Bale ruined it for me.

Yeah, I don't get the extreme love for Batman Begins. While I love Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, it's not a great superhero movie or even a great movie, period. It's good(but features a glaringly weak performance from Katie Holmes) and it in no way approaches the first two Supermans, Spidermans or Batmans.

Yeah, I agree. Although I thought Batman Begins was very good, and a very good hitting of the reset button for the franchise, I don't get the same feeling from it that i do from the first 2 Batmans, the first two Supermans, the first two X-Mens, and especially the first two Spider-mans.

I'm kind of ashamed to say that I've not seen Superman Returns yet. redface

I actually liked it, although I went in with low expectations. It reminded me of Batman Begins though in that it could've been better and the lead actress was weak.

I took the kids yesterday.

Honestly...with all the bad press that it's been getting...I was pleasantly surprised with it.

I think that people are being too judgemental. It's a freakin' comic book movie after all!

The dynamic between Peter and Harry was excellent.
The love triangle between Peter, Mary Jane and the blond chick was interesting.
Spidey kicked ass.

There were some cheesy moments though. That last scene with Mary Jane and Peter as they lamented over Harry's body was TOO melodramatic for me. I expected to see cherubs and unicorns as the camera panned off into the sunset.
By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

That's another one where the special effects were outstanding. I liked it more than Batman Begins--at least the guy looks like friggin' Superman. Despite the hokey plot, I would place that one in my top 5 superhero movies.

Imago

It lacked soul.

It wasn't a "bad" movie by any means to me. Just not up to par with the previous two.

Then again, he had 4 central figures (if you don't count Mary Jane and Gwen), which made it difficult to get involved with all.

i thought it was trying too hard to have the "something for everyone" appeal of one of the old christopher reeve superman movies, while at the same time trying to be hip and current at all times (all that emo shit ain't gonna age pretty at all).

there was way too much stuff going on in the movie, and i wanted to see them focus on SOMEthing...the peter/m.j. stuff was tiring, and i don't know why gwen was in the movie at all, but i liked the actress. she looks like a young dolly parton, without the rackage.

more venom would have been nice.

i don't know why they had to screw up the original comic storyline and make the sandman nothing like the original character. he looked great, but that was about it.

the opening credits were dumb. i felt like i was watching a bollywood movie. not in a good way.

The second film did the universal appeal thing much more effortlessly.

yeah...i've yet to be blown away by these spidey movies, but at least the second one went down smoothly and wasted two hours a lot less painfully than this one did. i still think the next one should be madeover to look more retro...not necessarily more camp, but cut out some of the hi-tech/wireless-gen crap and embrace the old skool ditko/romita look. bolder colors. less computer-y looking things. and knock it off with the fucking emo, i don't care if peter parker may be the first emo dude ever in the history of the world. lol
