The USA have been producing more violent TV shows, movies & pop/rock/hip-hop songs lyrics that any other country.

Still:

- Marvel can't have Spider-Man divorce from Mary-Jane: Joe Quesada says it would be a national scandal.

- Marvel censored some images from Essential Tomb Of Dracula because they featured... nude breasts.

- Marvel renamed Essential Son Of Satan (a 2006 reprint of a 1970's story) because they feared it would shock christians.

None of this is understandable for a 2007 Europpean.

Can somebody explain whatever i missed about US culture?

i think this is more about marvel's editorial/corporate culture than american culture in general. seems like DC takes the chances with their comics that marvel won't.

a couple quick thoughts from an american and someone who has lived in europe ...

1- just cus Joe Q said that about Spiderman's divorce ... dont believe it .... it was big news when superman died but --- we got over it ... NOW there is somethin like 50% divorce rate in the US right ?

2- breasts are everywhere in europe . i am not against it ... i think both americans and europeans can love the boobies ! (we elected george w didnt we?)

3- not sure about that . but with the satan worshippers in this country ... i guess people get spooked ... when somethin doesnt work in this country ... they find some reason to either rename it or put in on a different channel at night ...

I can't stand the Puritan streak in American culture.

1. Why is it kids can be allowed to watch cartoons feature weapons and killing? GI Joe anyone?

2. Why are we so hung up on the nake body instead of the "BEHAVIOR" behind what that body is doing? I mean, videos with woman shaking their asses are perfectly ok... But go forbid if a bare breast is revealed on Discovery.


I could go on, but I'm still in pain and tired.
