You read Cat Fancy too? I love that magazine, I've been receiving it for like 20 years now. It has a lot of good, informative articles in it, plus the pictures are darling. i've always flirted with the idea of subscribing. at first i was embarrassed but now i think it would be so uncool it would actually be hip. plus i like kitties, which is the most important part.

You should subscribe, who cares if it's cool or not? because even when i've mentioned it around my mom, she's reacted like i wanted to get a tattoo of avril lavigne on my forehead and says "why would you want to do THAT?!?" yet i notice whenever there's a copy of cat fancy laying around, EVERYONE oohs and aahs at all the cute kitties. i'm taking the plunge, dammit!

i just got a DVD in the mail from netflix called "feline frolix" which is an hour of, well, basically kittie porn - images of birds and cat toys and stuff that is supposed to captivate cats - so i thought it would be a good idea to pick my cat up and hold his face to the tv and say "LOOK AT THE LITTLE BIRDIES!" when i did this, grady smacked me on top of my head and then ran howling into the closet. oops. it must have been a weird night for him. i can't stop laughing at this!!

So no matter what I do for the past five minutes they've been growling at each other. I've tried spraying them, "hissing" at them, etc. Nothing works. They just look at me like "Stupid inferior being. Human." and go on acting all cat-like and stuff. Rairr. Cats. I bet.

M, what do you think about the taking your other kitty to the vet with you when you have your ill kitty put to sleep thing? I don't know. Most cats are so stressed about being at the vet that I don't think they'd really get much except fear out of it, but I guess it's case-by-case. The first vet I worked for was an exotics vet, and lots of those critters (rats, rabbits, ferrets) live in pairs. She would always invite people to bring the other critter along, and then place them in the cage with the one who had died for a few minutes, believing that they would somehow understand that their friend was gone. And maybe they do, I just don't know. The animals that I have actually seen go through this haven't had much reaction to the presence of the body, but the cats and dogs could tell that their humans were upset. The geek in me thinks it would be interesting to do a behavioral study and see if critters act differently in the days following the death of their friend, one way or another. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Mim...well, he mostly lies upside down so I can pet his tummy you know that means that cat trusts you. cats usually don't like their stomachs to be touched..only by someone who they trust..well thats what i read in a cat fancy atricle once. He BETTER trust me, we've lived together for 11 years now and when I wake up during the night and go to the bathroom or whatever he'll wake up and come up on the bed, lie down on his side and I drag him next to me so he's cradled around my right arm as I lie on my back... no matter how tired I am I'll lie like that until he sees fit to jump down, I can't fall asleep on my back but I'm such a pushover... it's so cozy
