TURTLES Appreciation Thread

I saw turtles crossing the street the other day twice in a day.....a sure sign that the weather is getting warmer. I was so scared that they were gonna get hit by a car. I travel that road a lot, and I didn't see roadkill the next day, so I'm assuming they made it across safe and sound. I used to like playing with them when I was little. They'd always come in our back yard. I never put my fingers close to their mouth though. lol Didn't wanna get snapped at. So give it up for turtles.

I love turtles. mushy The park that I walk in, every time it's a sunny day outside, you can see turtles sitting on trees (that have fallen into the water) sunning themselves.

A couple of years ago, my mom and I saw one of these guys in the park:

I didn't even realize it was a snapping turtle until someone riding by on a bike told me what it was. He was a big guy, and when he got up and walked across the walking path, he was kinda high up off the ground. I'm not sure if he was wild, or if he was once someone's pet that was let loose to fend for himself. Either way, he sure got a lot of attention! People walking by or riding their bikes stopped just to look at him. It's not every day you see a turtle of that size in the park. Usually it's just the smaller box turtles.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Cool, I'd walk in the park just to see the turtles too. I rarely see extremely large turtles here. I can't wait til the day I move to the beach and watch sea turtles come ashore. I'll never forget a wildlife park I went to when I was younger, and walking over a bridge and looking down at an alligator crunching on a turtle. I mean he was really going to town on that little turtle. Poor thing didn't stand a chance.

I think I was too young to be worried about it to be honest. I just remember we kept on walking. I just accept it as animal behavior now.

True. Animals do often eat each other in the wild as a means of survival.
