Home Depot and Lowes sell really nice ones for under 50 bucks.
I bought one for about 39 bucks that is very quiet (you can't hear it) and looks decent enough.

(we don't have them here of course) they are massive and mostly ugly, cost a fortune, waste electricity and when it's hot they just move warm air around a bit. Air con. Where Mach lives it is lovely and cool, even in the Summer.....she probably does not need air-conditioning...a fan would be enough..... "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. I bought one for about 39 bucks that is very quiet (you can't hear it) and looks decent enough. I bought a very cheap one from Home Depot, too, and it works just fine & isn't too noisy or ugly. I had a light fixture already, so installing it was easy. But it was on a dimmer which wasn't working right. Had to put in a regular switch. We shopped for a long time and found they were all a bit tacky looking (even expensive ones), so we went cheap just to see if we'd like it. We do. I think mine is Hampton Bay. i only paid $50 for mine and so far it's been very quiet
there was a tiny gap between the fan and the ceiling so i got a medallion and i really like the way it looks... will get a matching one for the other fixture when i replace it too.
i am still looking for the right one for the bedroom. it has to have the shorter blades and be a ceiling hugger style with a simple light fixture.

whe I bought my first house some trailer trash had went through and put ceiling fans in every room of the house.
Of course I took them all down and replaced them with appropriate lighting for the era of the house.

Get a HUNTER if you can afford it.
They are quiet and will REMAIN quiet for the life of the unit! I have this one right over the bed;
...and it's perfectly quiet. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Mine is really ugly. One of my roommates tugged on the cord to turn the light on and now it's stuck. I haven't been able to turn that light on (it's in the dining room) for 2 years.
