your earth day score take a moment to think how you did yesterday... my own scorecard looks something like this:
i took my paper recycling to the collection bin then i used the crate to carry home my groceries but i drove to the store a number of things i bought were made in china. beyond the environmental cost of transporting these items here, i think we are also exporting pollution by exporting the production of so many things we use the bag of peanuts were a product of china for heaven's sake! i bought a ridiculously over packaged product... and guess what. product of china it was all cardboard packaging so it's already in the recycle bin i forgot to get a couple of things so made a second car trip i love strawberries, but they have to come from california and are packaged in bulky plastic boxes that are not recyclable where i live since there is only me, i use my toaster oven to cook instead of the full sized oven i leave my computer running all day i am using collected snow water for my plants and new seedlings i haven't been composting i absentmindedly flushed after just one pee i took a long hot shower there are a lot of things i could be doing differently how did your day look?

i grew up with water shortages so it's not out of the ordinary if it's just me, it seems like a waste to flush from a little tinkle. don't worry, if you come to visit the water will be pristine

I (always) recycle all my paper, even at work (I even pick my colleges paper out of their trash to put it in the recycling bin)
I (always) recycle all glass. I try to recycle as much green/vegetable waste in my garden compost-bin as possible But sometimes are to lazy to walk outside for little bits. I never trow out clothing that is still usable. I give them to friends or charity. I bring everything that's still usable for others to the recycling store (did so last week, oven, bike and a few more things) I always give small change to charity raisers that come at my door. We don't have a car, we do all our shopping with our bicycle. I try to by as much 'bio' food as possible at our own store. Our house is isolated thoroughly and has double glassing. We have a low energy heating device ( whatever that's called in English) I never trow out batteries, I give them to school, they can buy stuff for the library for it. Same with printer ink cartridges. We hardly ever shop at the 'bio'shop. I take a hot bath nearly everyday I did bring all the stuff to the recycling store by car last week I don't always recycle the plastic coffee cups at work In my life I used the airplane a few times to go on holiday, same with the car. We have a dishwasher. I want to do more [Edited 4/23/07 12:49pm]

i am intrigued by this one whateva! you mean regular batteries? that is excellent. even though the package says not to throw in with household garbage you can be sure 95% of people do just that. including me

But on top of it all they have all kinds of reusable metals that can be recycled.

Neither seemed interested I dont know if this is good, but to clean my sufaces and glass etc. ,unless Ive been handling meat, I pour half vinigar and half water in a spray bottle. Its cheap and cleans everything well and deoderizes.

I even think our government use the rest of the stuff to heat ovens at factories but I'm not sure 'cause that might give out a lot of bad smoke.

I drove out to a friend's country place (45 min) and hung out with her and her friends all day. Then I drove home (45 min). We didn't dump any toxic waste in the lake though.

I used fresh ingredients to make a soup composted the peels caught all the excess water in a bucket under the sink for the garden dressed the kids in clothes I got 100% second hand I turn lights off in rooms not being used no TV on today recycled paper, cans, bottles did not use any chemicals or detergents walked kids to school used no sandwich wrap on school lunches 2 loads of washing drove to the safety shop to buy earplugs used the computer cooked the soup on a gas flame for hours used 2 disposable nappies so far for baby Max

I don't think I was very good today I threw away a bottle
but I didn't use plastic utensils I did drive a Toyota, which is something but I drove to lunch unnecessarily I recently bought a water filter to cut down on bottles we recycle much more than we throw away Yesterday I gave stuff to people on Craigslist.org that I could have thrown in the dumpster I've decided to try to buy less from China, but that's more about sweatshops We try to buy mostly local fruit but not all We're switching to those little flourescent lights but they don't work in every light, like dimmers My Legacy

I did use Eko nappies though.

Like the lightbolbs, I only have one set of lights with a dimmer and in all others I use spaarlampen (I guess thats what U call flourescent lights ) But I should shop more critical Less plastic wrappings and stuff. And use less water (take a shower more often instead of a bath)
