really, most "right wing vs. left wing" documentaries tend to disappoint me and insult my intelligence. regardless of which direction the agenda leans, they always use the same tactics and heavyhanded propagandist tricks to spoonfeed their opinions right down my throat, and i hate that. i like films that leave things WIDE OPEN for me to make my own conclusions. to be honest, this is why i've been hesitating about watching "an inconvenient truth", though i've been told it's a cut above the rest.

oh, and i hate movies that take elegant old actresses and make them talk like sailors or act all street for a cheap laugh. it was funny when june cleaver did it in "airplane!", but it really should have stopped there. okay - granny just dropped an f-bomb. we get it. ha ha. rolleyes

Maybe it's your use of "utter" but you just reminded me of Vanilla Sky. I also walked out of Cat in the Hat and should've for Be Cool. Actually, I ended up seeing that Russell Crowe sailor movie after I walked out of Cat. Alien vs. Predator was complete shite, too. Although, I did perversely enjoy the predator/human buddy cop thing at the end.

Man, I've seen some shit.

This has come up before, but:

Back to the Future III--Marty's ancestor Shamus McFly ws played by Michael J Fox, which is okay, but Shamus' wife was played by Lea Thompson, who played Marty's mother.

So did Marty's dad & Marty's mom both descend from the Shamus McFlys?

And every time they said something like "I feel as if it could affect...my future! [spooky music plays] I wanted to tear my eyes out.

Hint: French aristocracy (= fancy costumes) + French Revolution = Heads rolling

So, if no aristocrat heads are rolling it's not set during the revolution biggrin

The newest David Lynch movies do, since he thinks he can fool us into believing that there's a hidden meaning and that every element of the story makes sense even though a lot of it are just random bizarre fantasies just like they were in for example Eraserhead. "Weird but fascinating" was good enough back then, so I don't know why he's trying to put a new label on that same stuff these days. Maybe he's getting old and pretentious.

even his most ridiculously obtuse work doesn't INSULT my intelligence, though. it just fucks with my intelligence. i don't think his intentions are at all disingenuous - at worst it might be a case of overindulgence, but still it's coming from a brilliant mind and i'll take "lost highway" over "attack of the clones" any day. lol

I agree with that, although I'm still trying to wrap my head around Lost Highway. I picked it up recently on dvd and I just can't get into it.

As for Inland Empire, I thought it was incredibly self-indulgent, meandering and a really ugly film--visually--to boot. shrug I don't know if I could ever give it another try because of how much I despised it.

really? i thought inland empire was at the same time horrific and transcendent. the whole thing was like one big "black lodge" sequence to me, and i freakin LIVE for that stuff from lynch. i also feel like you could pause that movie at any moment and have a frame that would be absolutely perfect to frame and hang on your wall as a piece of art. every single moment of that film was visually stunning to me.

if i saw a frame of that film on a wall, i would burn the building down to the ground.lol it was actually the worst-looking film i've ever seen in my life. that's really not an exaggeration. we were laughing about how bad it was afterwards. cool one man's junk is another man's art, i guess.
