My brother needs a job I have a brother who is thirty years old and after eleven years just finished his "four year degree" program in Media Arts. Now that he has a college degree he is completely equipped to do...absolutely nothing. He has had only one job in his life, a 1 1/2 week stint at a grocery store that he still considers his own Vietnam. He lives with my parents and they have never pushed him but now that he is 30 and college educated they think he can just go out into the world and be prepared enough to handle the rigor of a full-time job. And your's truly has been given the unenviable task of making it happen, even though I have no idea what he could do for a living.
Anyone have any ideas of where a 30 year old with virtually no experience and a somewhat worthless degree can find gainful employment. All good things they say never last...

I have thought of that actually because I used to work there, putting books up in the reference section. It was simple enough but it was a summer job for me. I just don't know if he could do much more than that. All good things they say never last...

He should start with an internship in the field he got his degree in. Y'gotta start somewhere. It takes self-motivation to start a career and it sounds like he's missing that because he doesn't have to pay rent or be financially responsible. Starving without a place to live are real motivators.

I need someone to drive my new sandwich delivery van, but was really looking for a young blonde with big tits! (to appeal to the builders)
Do you think he would be willing to go out in drag? p.s. he would also need to commute from the States to the UK every day! Some people are like Slinkies...

Your brother needs a job...so your parents gave you one? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I agree...the sad thing is he's a decent photographer but really didn't get a lot from his program of study. Bill Gates didn't start out this way by any chance did he? All good things they say never last...

Yeah...I mean it's unofficially my job. We didn't have a formal meeting but there expectation is that, like I've had to many times, I will save him once again. I'm not trying to overly flatter myself...I mean I wish I would have slapped him around at 16 and said, "Dude, you have got to get a job or else you will be completely lost 14 years from now!" I've helped him get this far but unfortunately it's not that far. All good things they say never last...

LMAO...I am in the EXACT same position as you...almost...at least your brother graduated from high school and got a 4 year degree. My 25 year old brother is now living with me because, while he'll pay for his car and insurance (when he is working otherwise my father pays for it), he cannot manage to maintain an apartment. I'll stop there...the rant would just bring us all down...but I think you get the picture. I've at one point or another told my brother... "The choices you're making are fine...IF you happen to have a billion dollar idea lurking around in your brain like Bill Gates." Is your brother by chance and only son? I'm firmly planted in denial

Probably the easiest way to get him to "do something" is for him to be on his own and fend for himself. He'll figure it out.
But...there are PLENTY of good paying jobs that don't require a degree and many times those jobs can turn into better jobs if you HAVE a degree. He just needs to get in somewhere. The best place for this...that he can also use his degree for, is an office job. It's not that hard and at least he'll have a job while he thinks about what it is he wants to finally do. Also, I am sure that the place he received his degree has placement services or at least a place that posts for jobs. He should try looking there first. Christian Zombie Vampires

I've helped him get this far but unfortunately it's not that far. As long as people keep "saving" him, he will never stand on his own two feet. It may be too late already. A 30-year-old man with no job history is more or less unemployable. Bill Gates may have dropped out of college, but he started working when he was in his teens. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Anyone have any ideas of where a 30 year old with virtually no experience and a somewhat worthless degree can find gainful employment. temp/contractor agencies. he needs to hook up with people who are looking for people to hire. temp positions allow a condidate to fool around in different jobs, get a feel for what's out there. he might find that helpful i wish him good luck

I wish you the best. To me, in the end, there is really nothing to be done. It's their lives...THEY have to get out and do the work. It is very hard to think of my little brother hitting rock bottom. I don't want to lose touch with him should he get mad at the entire family and breaks contact with us or should he hit rock bottom and be too ashamed to contact us. It's stuff I wrestle with in my heart. I'm firmly planted in denial
