Did anyone bring up the horrors of the meat industry yet? Both in how they treat animals before they're slaughtered, not to mention how they treat workers and their general corrupt business practices?

PS - I'm not a veggie. I just play one most of the time.

i think we're supposed to be focusing on why vegetables are good and not why meat is bad. i need to brush up on my dr. seuss confuse

tons of vegetables are high in protein - spinach, for example, has tons of the stuff. the "fact" that a vegetarian diet lacks protein is a myth, most likely constructed by the meat industry and kept alive by folks looking for a reason not to make the switch. it's true - there ARE necessary transitions to be made when you take on a vegetarian diet, or else you can really do a number on yourself - but that's true with ANY diet that isn't balanced, meat-based or no.

3/4 cup of peas has more protein than an egg or a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Of course not. I never said that, you did. But there are many enough to make it provocative.

to the extent to which you can make defensive/borderline-offensive statements without so much as getting a clear idea of what an individual's investment may be?

So talking about why I like meat is borderline offensive but calling meat-eaters murdurers is not? Yeah that makes perfect Anx sense. falloff

this thread wasn't about why retina (or anyone else) likes meat, really, is it? though in the most patently predictable fashion, you had to take it there, just like every other thread on vegetarianism that gets started on the org. your P&R training in ubiquitous, useless cage-rattling has served you well, padafuckingwan. it feels like an act of charity just to engage in dialog with you sometimes. smile

I didn't take it there, the original poster did when he called me and other meat-eaters murdurers. But you'll never understand that, will you? smile

I don't know, that sounds like an ok trade off. it's not like it is refined sugar.

Oh, and...

I only posted on this thread to take the piss on Anx, I'm a meat eater so I didn't post on why I'm vegetarian... it's a thread directed at vegetarian orgers, so meat-eaters really should stay the fuck away from this thread. Both meat eaters and meat-is-murder idiots are equally annoying. Let people be what they want dammit! mad

The amount of naturally occurring sugar and carbs in fresh peas is certainly not something that is bad for you.

That's what's wrong with the crazy diet industry. Someone somewhere decides 'carbs' are bad for you or cause you to gain weight or whatever and suddenly people are scared to eat a serving of a fresh vegetable. nuts

if you're diabetic, why are you concerned about eliminating meat?

i ask this because i think diabetes requires more immediate (re: easy, meat) answers but i guess that doesn't mean one cannot modify the design of their diet.

We are all as a Whole Family eating healthy to support my dad and so everyone else could get healthier in the process. I went to this thread because I am basically sick of meat and wanted info! wink

Oh, I gotta ask this! I'm allergic to soy and have some issues with fruit. Would it even be possible for me to be a vegetarian? Not that I'd want to, but I wonderif.

ok

but serving peas that has natural sugars in it isn't the same as a serving of refined sugar.

I dunno the science, I just know that higher carb veggies like peas, corn and carrots, affect the blood sugar more than lower carb veggies.
