so i'm looking to buy a new (well new to me anyway) vehicle. and i really have my heart set on a truck. typically i like small cars...but now i want a truck. a small or medium sized truck will do. i'm looking for the same thing most people do: reliability, great gas mileage, and of course something i'm comfortable in and want. i don't have much money, but i want to find a nice used (new is not an option for me really ) truck/jeep that can get me to where i need to go. i unfortunately have to spend quite a bit of time driving even though i only work about 2 mins from where i live. lol i was thinking of a small pick up truck but i'm not really not going to be hauling things around. maybe small furniture when i move. i'm not opposed to a small car but like i said i'm really wanting a truck, and i've been told that you should get the vehicle you want. i've seen some ads by private owners and some look like really good deals. however i also know the rule of 'buyer beware'. i don't think i can afford something of a lot. so any help advice and suggestions you guys can give me would greatly be appreciated!!

i really want a rav 4 - rated pretty good on gas mileage
and people that own one seem to love them

as such the used ones hold their value and are a bit more than i want to spend
car like but also allows you to haul gear around too.

I need a new car too.....My Corolla is almost done. I'm not much of a help to advise you on vehicles...especially trucks. What happened to that orger that was really in automobiles.....paintsprayer? I think that was him.

Allright, having said that, take any used car that is older than a year or two to a garage (I work for a chain service center). For free they should be able to tell/show you everything wrong with it.

Oh, and a hidden warning to anyone who buys "all wheel drive" as compared to a "4 wheel drive" that you shift into:

All time all wheel drive requires that you buy four tires evrytime you replace one. My store constantly has people who have blow outs and find themselves with a five or six hundred dollar replacement cost.

I have a Landrover 4x4 Freelander 2.0 S. Lovely car to drive, holds it own, good on the gas.
