Left the house at 9am, traffic was bad, but still, the taxi driver 'knew the best way' and proceeded to take us all around the houses before we finally made it to the embassy. An hour and a half to travel no more than 25kms. Went almost straight up to get my passport and stamped affirmation, but no, they've lost my passport and affirmation. We waited in the embassy for 1 and a 1/2 hours. They came out every 10-20 minutes to ask us if we could wait a little longer, and finally they found my passport and the affirmation. I had a go at the poor girl whose fault it almost certainly wasn't, about how we now didn't have enough time to get married, and that other embassies charge up to 5 times less for the same service, and we headed to the translation place. Got that done and came home. So, tomorrow we're off to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then hopefully we'll come back here to the district office to get married. I can feel a letter coming on, as my father would say. I've got HM's Consul's address and I've fire in my belly. I wanted to marry on the 23rd since it was the 23rd when we first hooked up (23rd June 2001), but hopefully tomorrow will go more smoothly and we'll be married. Oh man- hope that works out for you on the 23rd then. Hey- you've waited this long- right? I must say the 24th is alright too...hehehe (nevermind- inside joke) Anyways- thanks for keeping us posted. Thinking of you

Here's to a smooth one tomorrow and best wishes to you and Mon! I wish you a long and happy future together.

Again! Somebody doesn't want this marriage to happen!
We went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and waited 2 and a half hours for the stamp on our translation. Came back here to the district office and had to wait a while, only to be told Mon would need a police report for her lost divorce paper (the British embassy kept it when she was applying for her visa to the UK). By then it was 3pm and too late for us to get to the police station and back before the district office closed at 3:30pm. Oh, we were also told we'd need two witnesses, and we only had one (Mon's father). So now it's the 25th!

Just so frustrated right now. First the woes with the marriage and now I've just had to rearrange my flight from Penang back to Bangkok. I'm flying out on Friday for a visa run (hopefully the last of my tourist visas) and was due to return the same day. Ok, it's my fault. I'm going to pay the company I use a little extra and they give that to the consulate to get the passport done the same day, but I just heard they have a backlog of passports. The company told me I should still get it back the same day but that it probably wouldn't be in time for my early evening flight. I tried to change my return to Saturday morning but the best I could get was a Sunday evening one. The fare was different so I had to pay the difference, plus the fee to change, and now I've 3 days and 2 nights in Penang, the thought of which is just depressing. I can't afford it right now, even though I'll try to do it on a shoestring, and I've been so many times now that it's just boring. I need a good book 'cause I'll probably just stay in my (shitty) hotel room and eat crap snacks from 7-11 like last time. Some friends were due to come for a barbecue at the house too, but looks like I'll be away and when I get back they'll have flown back to Switzerland. Then a friend is coming over from Ireland, but I'm not sure we'll have enough money to really go out to see her as much as we'd like. Ok, rant over.

I think ANYONE would be ranting in your situation, Nick. Sounds a bit f'd up. The lengths you've gone to, just this week alone... Mon is very lucky. Hope you manage to sort this out soon.

Better late than never eh? But it will be worth it in the end and you will appreciate your wedding more because of the hassle and it will be a memory that you will in the end laugh about and a story to tell down the pub!! But anyway, my felicitations on your marriage and the very best to both of you. "I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it"
Be proud of who you are not what they want you to be...

I would type out all about what happened yesterday but suffice to say I am now married. I'm a bit tired, but happy. Tomorrow I'm off to Penang for 3 days, which is a bit of a shame considering we've just gotten married, but that's life. Everything went ok and it feels great being married!
I suppose I should let my family know, although my parents won't get my email until they come back from Seville. I had told them and others in the family about our plans but we kept putting our plans on hold and then all the drama of the last few days happened. Now to plan for the big ceremony!
