20-somethings: this question is for you How is life in your 20's? Are you doding the things that you want to do or are you where you want to be in your life? Or are you going through major struggles and challenges?
I wish I could be as fortunate as Prince was in his 20's. But I'm not Prince. I'll never be half as cool as he was in his 20's. But I'm trying to do what I can to make life in my 20's easier. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Life's not bad, somewhere in between where I hoped it'd be and where I hoped I wouldn't be. I'm closer to where I hoped I'd be though
Doing some of the things I want to do, some other will have to wait (Im only 23!) Definitely some *major* struggles and challenges --> Not a bad review on the whole. Rock n roll baby

It's ok. I think I'm nowhere near where I want to be, but then I'm not exactly sure where I want to be. I'm having fun, I can say that much. I do like a generally simple, contented life, but with the odd struggle thrown in to keep me on my toes. It is what it is and I'm probably just going to keep on doing it unless I find something else more rewarding and interesting. I'd say I'm not pushing myself at all and probably 80% of what I have to offer is not be used, so at some point I'd like to change that and really engage in life more.

Oh, I did go and get my 'Affirmation Of Freedom To Marry' from the embassy today and will be getting married on Monday. That's something I've been meaning to do for a while.

Relax, and enjoy your 20's to the fullest. Money is always tight in your twenties, but the opportunities for fun and meeting new people, in my opinion is much easier in the your 20's--at least half or more of your friends aren't married and tied down yet, so you can just up and skip out of town whenever you can scrap together the funds to go party. Your 30's will suck supremely compared to your twenties. But at least while it's sucking, you'll be living in a house with a decent car if you plan right.

Of course, I just didn't plan right. I did nothing but have fun all through my 20's and I have absolutely nothing to show for it now. I'm still renting, my car is 17 years old, my computer I have at home now is almost as old as that... I really have next to nothing in terms of material posessions and I'm still living paycheck to paycheck. I DID have a good time, though. And I wouldn't have the same now, that's for sure. I think the secret is striking the perfect balance. [Edited 4/20/07 7:43am] |

I know it's just a formality, but YAY nonetheless! Congrats! Thanks. There's a whole weekend between now and then for us to get into a fight and call it off though. Can't believe the embassy charged me 55 GBP just to basically check 1 sheet of A4 that I had to type up myself from a template they provided. It only said my name, passport number, parents' names, address and statements that I'm not currently married, have no dependents etc.

I don't meet new people. I'm anti-social. I have one non-Thai friend in the whole of Thailand. I've lost touch with virtually all my friends in the UK. He's Thai-d down (get it?) and with a baby on the way, and we fight all the time. We live just a few hours from several beaches and a day away from beautiful islands, but haven't been away for a couple of years (trip to the UK aside). I probably won't have a car or house anytime soon.

cool! Oh, it's great fun too. On Monday morning I'll go back to the embassy to check everything's cool, then off to get the affirmation translated into Thai. Then we're off to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get the translation stamped. Then back here to the district office to sign the marriage paper and get Mon's ID card changed. Then sometime in the next month or two we'll have to scrap Mon's only 6 month old passport for a new one with my last name on it. So romantic.

That's the real wedding. It's funny it being so long after (and it may even end up being early next year), but it's really dependent on when family can get out here.

Also, in your 20's your alchohol recovery time is uber fast, sometimes only hours.
In your 30's if you plan to drink, your ass better be taking an extended weekend, and have plenty of ice packs, NetFlix movies, and gatorade and shit stocked in your fridge.

I'm starting to curtail my drinking in anticipation of this. On to the Singha Lights and no more Chang. Yaaaay! I'm so dull!

I just turned 29, and I'm very happy with the way I spent my 20s. I've been a mother for all of them (had my first child at 18), and every year I feel happier, more fulfilled, and maybe a little wiser. My daughters are kickass broads, and I can't think of two people I'd rather have spent the last ten years with. They make me laugh every single day, they make me think hard and check myself at least as often, and they make me cry with joy and frustration all the damn time. I have a job that doesn't pay me a ton, but allows me to help and interact with lots of cool people. I have young people around me all the time, which keeps me active and smiling. I'm totally in love with a wonderful person who makes me feel amazing every single day, makes me smile when I'm sad, gives me more love than I've ever had, and would do anything to make me laugh.
To answer the question: I won't pretend I don't have struggles and challenges, but I can say I am where I want to be in my life. I'm looking forward to the thirties. The Normal Whores Club
