That's awesome. We have a "falafel king" here, which always makes me giggle. I really wish there were a burger king across the street. But tonight's falafel came from the greek deli on my corner. |

When I cook this, I've accidently made a vegetarian meal. It's so yummy and filling. Easy to make at home. There's a variety of ways to make falafal.
Turkish: broad beans, cumin, chili, baking soda, onion, garlic, cilantro scallions, parsley, salt and pepper, and oil for frying. Armenian:bulgar, bread crumbs, lentils(optional), garbonzo beans, parsley lemon juice, garlic, cilantro, cumin, salt and pepper, oil for frying. You just throw everything in a blender and make patties or balls and fry. I prefer olive oil. OR if you don't cook much there's always the boxed stuff, which isn't too bad, where you just add water. I've used a Lebanese brand, Alwadi Alakhdar falafel mix. Must have pita, cucumber and yogurt, preferably the thick type from middle eastern stores. [Edited 4/17/07 17:41pm]

Not really. That's why I like the patties. Then you put yogurt in the pita on top of the falafel. Maybe yours was over cooked? All you need is the outside to be crispy. You could eat the stuff raw. With Meze, (appetizers), the dishes are similar for dipping pita bread. Ground chickpeas, cumin, tahini, all blended and served or pureed broad beans with spices. None of which are cooked. It doesn't need to be fried long. [Edited 4/18/07 18:07pm]
