when you have a movie with rob schneider playing a gay priest, i think it's a safe bet that you can pretty much throw a generous cultural worldview out the window.

Like that stupid movie where he adopts that one kid or something, and he has neighbor friends who are gay. But this sounds like a step in the very wrong direction. Hopefully, it's just the movie studio's portrayal of it--like one of those trailers that promises one thing, but delivers another. At least I hope. Cause if it's a cheap poke at The Ghey, it'll be too tacky for words. I've never seen an Adam Sandler Movie. Repetative. There's always one scene in his movies that will crack me up to no end, but it's not worth sitting through the rest of it. Although the "Mr. Smith" movie cracked me up a lot. He has great taste in music though.

considering the two main stars - EWWWW Just knowing it was gay for pay, would make it worth it. Come on, you know if there was a tape floating around, you'd be a little curious. Christian Zombie Vampires

i saw punch drunk love and it was kind of awkward. adam sandler's not ready to go legit and do the "robin williams oscar scene" thing. i think he has to get old first to get away with that.
my mom made me take her to see "anger management" and i was embarrassed to be seen walking out of the theater afterwards. i'd rather have my photo taken walking out of a donkey show.

'spanglish' is good, but it's not a stupid comedy the way most of his are. i love 'punch-drunk love' but it's probably becaus i love pt anderson, the director (boogie nights, magnolia) [Edited 4/16/07 10:13am] Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

I really didn't care for spanglish and I thought Punch Drunk Love just didn't pull off what it wanted to. |

I have to agree that I was kinda dissapointed by the trailer. The jokes were done before. I do like the fact that Adam's movies are very gay friendly. I hope this movie continues that tradition.

again, withholding judgement until i see it, however...
i think the timing of it is what bothers me the most. if sandler is as gay-positive as he seems to come across, then he should know we are kind of in the middle of fighting for equality of marriage law right now. we don't need a big stupid comedy playing sexuality and gay marriage for laughs and giving people what will probably be a lot their first opinions of what a gay marriage is. (i mean seriously, name me one major movie that has a believable gay marriage) but again, who knows? the fact that i like any adam sandler movie continues to shock me. we'll see what it is like. i am hopeful. I hope and pray that underneath all the tasteless jokes and stereotyped portrayals of homsexuals, Sandler ultimately shows that gay couples go through the same types of relationship issues as anyone else, and that underneath all the "differences" there's a cord of commonality we all share. I hope he pulls off some of what Jack Black pulled off with Gweneth paltrow in that movie about a shallow guy falling for a fat woman. America has taken way too many steps backwards in the last 6 years--I would hate to see the pop "social consciousness" digress further.

I'm sorry. Going by that it doesn't really look offensive to me...or really all that funny. But I'll probably rent it or d/l it. It reminds me of when I was in the military and my friend Mark had a best friend who was a lesbian. Because he didn't drink, she would always make him her DD, and he would drive her to a lesbian bar named the Cherokee. He would always drag my ass to along with him so I could be his "boyfriend" in case he got approached by another man I kept telling him, "Do you really think that if you told a man who offered you a drink that you were straight, that he would keep persuing you?" I mean, he went through the trouble of dragging my ass to a lesbian bar--and I *HATE* lesbian bars (no offense gay ladies, but gay men's bars are uber awesome compared to your bars--at least here in Tampa). The funny thing is that I was always the one approached.
