What was your teenage job?

I worked in a movie theater. It was alright most of the time, but I lived in a yuppie area, so it had its bad parts

I was a tray girl in a nursing home- set up food trays and delivered them for the people who couldn't come to the dining room. Had to wash all the dishes too.
I really liked that job, I got to talk to a lot of really nice old people.

I was a waitress for about 2 weeks. I hated that job, though once a cute guy gave me a $4 tip for a $1 cup of coffee. biggrin

Did a hella lot of baby sitting too.

I was a (rubbish lol) paper boy during my early teens. I saw JD's thread about it the other day and it's true - you work so much for so little yet you never realise at the time. I was on £2.50 a WEEK at one point. falloff Ridiculous! But it was cool in its' own way - you'd get to meet a lot of characters. nod

Then I worked for a supermarket which carried on right through Uni, whenever I'd go home. I got to know every single Granny in the area in about 3 weeks. lol

Hey Red!! hug You were missed last week. nod I hope everything's okay with you. hug

The paper round - I was rubbish at, mainly, because I befriended this agoraphobic old lady who was only about the fourth person on my list. I was one of the few people she'd see on a regular basis so we'd stop and chat for AGES, or I'd go on errands, so by the time I got to house number 63 or something, their 'early evening' paper would arrive about 7pm. falloff My Christmas tips were always crap, as a result. lol

The supermarket job I LOVED at the time (although it did have its' fair share of annoying moments). Sometimes, I think I'd rather give up doing what I'm doing now and go back to that - I used to have a lot of fun. sigh I was the only guy who worked there at one point so I was surrounded by women of all ages - including my mother - so I grew up amongst them. When I first came out, they were all intrigued by this 'alternative' lifestyle. I'd get in on a Monday morning and be in the crisps aisle, with about four of the shop girls around me asking "So what did YOU get up to on the weekend, then??", whilst my mother - who I hadn't come out to - would be in the the next aisle over putting out shampoo and Tampax. falloff We'd be whispering and giggling away giggle whilst I'd tell them about some guy I'd pulled - I'm sure my mother was secretly listening in. Funny times. lol

hug

OMG falloff I was gonna say, did talking to all the grannies, turn you gay? lol

But then I thought I best not.. neutral

But I have said it now.. lol

oh it sounds like fun times

I mean they were really the good old days.. the money I earned went into my post office account and I saved and saved and saved.. first to get a nose job, but my calculations reckoned I couldnt afford one till I was like in my late 50s, so I ended up using the money towards a school ski-ing trip.

excited

oh I had lots of fun working there.. I would act all funny and immature if we had no customers in, swinging from counter to counter like a monkey, and I could cos Mum OWNED the shop, so if I was feeling a bitch I used to give the shop assistants I didnt like heaps of trouble, like locking them in the cellar and stuff like that.. but if a customer came in, I was gravely serious and grown up and so very polite..

da,m we had some real freaky regular customers who came in the shop and would wanna stay and chat and chat for ages..

but thats another story.. I may add later.. lol

and yeah I feel so sad I missed last weekend, but it was really unavoidable.. so I am glad I said my goodbyes to Natisse the week before hug

spit falloff lol

No, they didn't turn me gay. falloff I don't think working in a supermarket did that - me asking for a Sindy doll to play 'husband and wife' with my Action Man (completely freaking my father out) did that earlier in life. evillol

Funnily enough, a lot of the women used to come in and say to my mother (in front of me, like it was some odd courting ritual; I think they wanted to pair me off with their grand-daughters) "Oooh, he's a handsome boy, Alun. Has he got a girlfriend?". And my mother would look at me and say: "Not that I know of but a lot of women do call the house to speak to him". nod (And I'd be thinking "Yeah - and it's mostly music, men and gossip we're talking about". confused lurking lol). But I got to know a lot of the locals (and rough asses evillol) in my area but I think I was the Grandmother's Choice. giggle

You sound like you were a RIOT to work with!! evillol I can imagine how your colleagues must've felt. falloff I mean this in a nice way, if I was working with you then you probably would've been locking me in the cellar - I was such a sap. lol I'd have been scared of you. evillol hug

And, yeah, you do get your fair share of 'interesting' customers. disbelief The drunks, the chavs, the guy who would freak out if I wrapped his bacon in a certain way. confused The woman who would come in and ask for 'low fat crisps' EVERY week, even though we didn't stock them. And the delivery guy. razz

You'll have to tell us your stories, Red. nod
