Poor kid. I'm with everybody who said aloe vera - that stuff works really well on burns. Used to use it when I lived at my parent's home and burned myself cooking.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I remember the whole thing. Bawling in the car in my mom's lap. The doctors asking me questions and wrapping me in bandages. Coming home with these big casts on my hands. Very surreal. I don't remember the pain though.

I'll bet it was surreal. That must have been very painful.

If you have any plain toothpaste, (YES, I said TOOTHPASTE!), rub some on there. That's what my mom used to do to help soothe the pain.

oops- i just read that u don't have aloe... well... toothpaste works (great for pimples 2), neosporin, or just let it be and tell her not to touch it.

Don't laugh but the best remedy I have found is honey. I had hot oil from a pan spatter on my leg a year ago, (2nd degree burns). Not only did the honey take the sting out, the scar is barely visible.

Pure aloe gel from the plant is good too.

youch!

My mum said when I was about 12 months old I could stand up holding onto stuff, so I was cruising around the house and leaned against the glass on the front of the oven, which was on full blast sad I stood there screaming until someone picked me up. I had to go to hospital and the whole palm of my hand was one huge blister, I never sucked my thumb again after that and rejected the dummy my mum bought me.

Cold running water is better than ice -- but you're outside the time frame for it. (Cold water should be applied immediately -- you want to cool the skin as quickly as possible, so the burn doesn't get to the deeper layers of your skin.)

Do not use antibiotic ointment of any kind! Every dermatologist I've ever spoken with would like to see Neosporin taken off the market. Aloe is cooling and soothing.

Ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties that will relieve the pain of something like a burn much better than Tylenol.

Cuz it doesn't really work, can interfere with healing, and the antibiotic is so weak it can help contribute to creating superbugs.

When I had a skin cancer removed awhile back, the doctor told me to use plain Vaseline on the wound just to keep it pliable and to keep the bandage from sticking. He warned me specifically not to use Neosporin or any other kind of antibiotic ointment.

Interesting. I'd never use it on a burn, but I used it on a laceration on my finger a couple of months ago. I could swear it interfered with healing, and my finger seemed to heal faster after I stopped using it.
