one of our clients asked me once if i could give her a ride to a city 2 hours away. i told her i was busy.

since then when i see her outside of work i smile politely and try to look like i'm too busy to talk, or i pretend i'm so focused on what i'm doing i don't see her. so far it's worked.

no kidding!! i'm glad you agree, i was beginning to feel guilty for avoiding her. but she's kinda.... weird. she always tries to tell me all her "woes" when she's in our office, and that day she needed a ride to the airport, two hours away, and all her friends and family were busy and/or working.

i do it all the time. my friends get pissed off at me sometimes, but oh well

I don't avoid many people except for my neighbor. Most people get the message that you acknowledge them and don't want to talk, but he's such a toxic vampire and will do everything he can to suck hours out of your life. He dishes out unrequested advice (the biggest insult to me) and talks about his lame life experiences and endless pursuit of money - for HOURS! I feel the need to sage myself just thinking about him.
Needless to say I park my car far away and walk (the long way) around the block all the time. Just to avoid his diarrhea of the mouth.

I do it sometimes .... I guess there are times when we just dont feel like talking to other people .

And they often turn out to be the times when you need to talk to other people the most !!!

I feel that way about talking on the phone.

M
