Fostering & Adoption!!!

About 3 or 4 weeks ago I was randomly contacted on Yahoo Instant messenger by a young 16 year old guy from Ghana as, he was seeking Spiritual help for him and his sister and companionship(dont worry, this isnt pedo). Anyway, during the conversations I found out about the harsh conditions him and his sister live in and he also told me that both his parents were killed in the civil uprisings in that country!! We are trying 2 get him help through Jehovahs Witnesses Missionaries and everything as he has had connections with them in the past in Ghana.

Anyway, the thing is I am seriously thinking of fostering them both or even adopting them and getting them over 2 the UK. The thing is, I havent a clue where 2 start in the fostering/adoption process and how 2 even go about it.

Can anyone give me any advice on this and has anyone ever done the same thing or even been fostered and/or adopted themselves??

Please guys can u help me in this?? These 2 poor souls are so desperate!!!

Thanks!! biggrin biggrin

They either sleep out in the street, or on the kitchen floor of the kitchen belonging 2 the main library in this refugee settlement camp in Accra, they go days without food and they have 2 do labour like washing floors, carrying bricks and other hard tasks!! The guy who owns the library in turn lets them use the computers in the library in return for them working for him!! The young lad has given me his postal address, but what is the point of mailing stuff 2 him if he hasnt got the money 2 pay the Post master in order for him 2 have access 2 his P.O. Box????? They go begging for food and they havent been 2 school in like 4 or 5 years!!!! sad sad sad sad

But why choose 2 kids out of the millions who suffer exactly the same problems?

If you want to help them out of the goodness of your heart (and wallet), then thats great, really, good for you nod But why them? Just cause they managed to email you?

IMO, its the ones who have no access to email we have to worry about twocents

Unfortunately, your best way to go about helping if this is truly the case is to find a charity that works in the area they are in and work with them. Honestly, anyone can make up stories and ask for things. It happens ALL THE TIME.

i'm really sorry, but it sounds like a con.

however, as a former foster kid, i will be happy to set you up with some starting points if you are serious about wanting to foster/adopt. there are millions of kids that grow up in the f/a system that never see anything but group homes (aka orphanages) their entire lives, because we aren't doing NEARLY enough to open our lives to those in need.

Well if you cant afford it off your own back, then I would go with Carrie and suggest a charity. Maybe you can help them yourself, that way, you know, volunteering etc. Find a charity that does work in their area and tell them to go there.

Me too, I'm talking about finger-pointing at us for being cynnical.

If you want to foster/adopt - do it through an agency.
