"Pop" seems to be the most common term in Seattle, but "soda" (I was born in Massachusetts) is always understood. Only once has a restaurant employee commented on it.
OTOH, I'd get some strange looks in the Chicago area when I'd say "soda." Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Soda. Even in Spanish I say "soda".
Yesterday we had my cousin and his wife (she recently moved here from Honduras) over for dinner. I asked her what she wanted to drink and she asked for a "gaseosa" which I believe is the correct way to say it in Spanish, but it confused me nonetheless. No colour. Is that what you call soda? I'm confused too because some people here say coke. And that's a different thing. That would be "una cola" in Spanish

In most parts of the country we say "gos" but in the Eastern fjords it's common to say "öl"... of course if you would ask for "öl" at a newsstand in Reykjavík you would probably get a pilsner light beer
