Where I come from (Michigan) we say 'pop' when referring to having a Pepsi, Sprite, etc. I lived on the east coast before (Mass) and when I first moved there I went into a little pizza/sandwich shop and asked for a 'grape pop' and the girl looked at me like I was insane eek and still didn't know what I was talking about even after I pointed to the Welch's Grape on the sign. neutral Is that such an unknown word that she wouldn't have known what I was talking about?

What do they say where you live? (I could have put the preposition 'at' at the end of this sentence, since they say we do that all of the time anyway)

down in the south it's cola.
I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

I call it a coke. I call pepsi coke.

I call ginger ale. ginger ale.

I call root beer. root beer.

I call any cola. Coke.

But I don't give a fuck.

So, da pop. Soda, Coke.

Same difference. To me.

I haven't said 'pop' in years, even though I grew up saying it.

I've been thoroughly de-programmed.

POP Very midwestern and Northeast US

SODA Southern US, people from the Midwest tend to counter this by saying "Soda is soda water"

COKE A Georgia thing. It is the birth place of this sweetened and type 2 diabeties causing nectar of the heavens. When I worked in a movie theater as a teen, people would ask for a "coke". When I asked what kind of coke they would then say sprite, Dr. Pepper etc...

I wonder if people in Texas say "Pepsi" as thier umbrella title for a soft drink...

"I'll have a coke"

"Pepsi alright?"

"Yeah"

POP is what we call it here in MI

Im from Detroit and we call it POP, damnit!

woot!

That's right! When I worked at McDonald's somebody came in once and asked, "What soda do you have?"

I said, "What what do we have?"

She said,"Soda."

I said, "We don't carry that."

She looked at me with disbelief. "You don't have Coke or Sprite or anything?"

"Oh...you mean pop? Yeah, we have pop. Coke products."

She looked at me like I was crazy. When I think of "soda" I think of soda water or club soda. I honestly had no idea anybody said anything other than "pop" when talking about soft drinks.
