Pop or Soda

Where I come from (Michigan) we say 'pop' when referring to having a Pepsi, Sprite, etc. I lived on the east coast before (Mass) and when I first moved there I went into a little pizza/sandwich shop and asked for a 'grape pop' and the girl looked at me like I was insane eek and still didn't know what I was talking about even after I pointed to the Welch's Grape on the sign. neutral Is that such an unknown word that she wouldn't have known what I was talking about?

What do they say where you live? (I could have put the preposition 'at' at the end of this sentence, since they say we do that all of the time anyway)

When I lived in Ontario as a kid it was always "soft drinks".

I picked up "pop" when I moved to the maritimes and I still call it "pop" now that I am back in Ontario.

I'm from Michigan - it's Pop for everyone around here.

It all stems from Soda Pop - so either way is correct, depends on where you live!

Pop in the South (also "cold drink") & Soda up North and out West has been my experience.

We (California) usually say soda but I grew up saying coke, regardless of what brand.

I say soda, but most of my family says pop.

I've heard in the south it's all 'coke'. So if you order a coke they'll ask what kind.

hmmm Well now that you've made me think about it, I believe Soda-Pop would be more accurate.

And I am slightly older than you are. wink

I've heard "Cokecola" (said exactly as it looks) used in the South.
