OK, so let's say that you did this gig for someone as an assistant. There's a birthday party happening and you've been requested to help out with catering, cleaning, decorating and whatever else. The party run from 2PM-3AM. It's a very big job which involves dealing with serving the guest's needs, maintaining the cleanliness and the order of the place, dealing with uptight and demanding co-workers under pressure, and running up and down flights of steps in the process. And after your done, you are pretty much worn out.

And what are you rewarded for your efforts? A measley $60.00. No tips or bonuses.

Now tell me if that's not getting screwed over.

For professional reasons and need for references, sometimes you have to bite the bullet. On the other hand, if your employer wants any future work from you or anyone else in your field, they need to be reasonable. It's pretty easy to develope a reputation as a "bad" employer. It works both ways.
