yeah we have a $1000 deductible too. It sucks. $400 a month and $1000 each (up to $3000). The good news is, we met that this year so for the next 6 months, it is really cheep! ne Witty Signature last seen under a much more clever person than me.

Although $1000 deductible sounds like a lot, think of it another way.
Say you're in a motor vehicle accident with broken bones, and have to be hospitalized. The bills rack up. Starting with the Emergency Department. The ED doc's bill, labwork, xrays, etc...the hospitalization, # of days cared for, surgery, physical therapy, after care, Drs. visits... it can easily be over $10,000-$20,000. Plus. OR have an appendix that acts up. With insurance premiums, it's the healthy that pay for those that aren't. But, it's there if you need it. [Edited 4/12/07 17:04pm]

I'm the appendix. The organ is not required for bodily functions. Can be removed anytime. Don't wait until it ruptures. It's the difference between "laprascopic" and "open" appendectomy. If it ruptures, the surgeon has to go in and clean things up which requires an incision. Longer recovery. If you're having abdominal pain, are you sure it's the appendix? Could be gall bladder. i can't emphasize enough, get a primary care doc: Family Practice covers a little bit of everything. For young healthy folks such as most on this site, that's a great physician. [ [Edited 4/12/07 18:23pm]

I remember the doctor telling me it was better that they do it that way, but I was all morphined up and don't remember if he explained why. The Normal Whores Club

Not with appendixes, but laprascopic assisted vaginal hysterectomies. There's some indication an incision is better. Next post-op visit, ask why you didn't have the laprascopic procedure. Your surgeon should tell you. Explain that you were fuzzy from the pain meds. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. I can guarantee: if you weigh 300#, NO WAY.
