When you completely disagree

So, my dj crew is coming onto our 4th year anniversary and a friend of one of the guys has offered to do shirts with designs on them for free. WHich for all intents and purposes is cool.

I got the design today, which my friend of the designer thought was awesome. Now I had perhaps assumed that he might use imagry, fonts or even just the tone of all we have put out. For me it seemed as though he had a design and slapped our name on it.

For those that don't know, my crew spins ambient/downtempo music. You know, pretty, mellow, sometimes spacey stuff or arabic infused breaks.

Here is the design

it's ...ok. But certainly doesn't invoke anything that we do. The other guys LOVE it. Love the squirrells holding chainsaws etc. I simply do not. I feel like I am spioling the party because I don't LOVE it like they do. I am glad it's pro bono, but that's about it.

Right now I am just letting it be. Shirts made etc. I won't let that imagry come out on our web site though. shake

It's okay, though I don't really get it either. confused Kinda random

I wonder, if you let the t-shirts happen, won't there be a lot of pressure to put it on the website, too?

I hope not. Nor the flyer. I'll have issue with it.

I think you have to look at it closely to determine the chainsaws. It's definitely offbeat. Represents the "spacey stuff" you play.
On the bright side, there's only 8 months left in the year, and for 2008 insist in seeing the image before it's put on the shirts and specify no changes are to be made without aproval. Since it's pro-bono it's difficult to play hardball.....
it's definitely unique and not all that bad. I'd wear it. And I'm particular.

i really like the design, but i don't think it's appropriate to what you do. i agree. if you were, like, beck, this would be a perfect image. i think the style of the image is "in" right now and i don't think it will hurt to give out t-shirts with this on it, but yeah...i wouldn't let it represent your image much farther than some giveaway stuff.

thanks everyone. you give me perspective on this. Casey likes it too, but said it has nothing to do with what we do, which seems to be the consensus.

The more I look at it, the more I like it. I'm not being contrary. It actually reminds of a cool tee I had in the late 70's. It was a blue print pic on white t-shirt with a jesus-like figure smoking a doobie. It was classic. Off the wall stands out. Just my sage opinion. Can I get one?? Really. Org note me. I'll get a couple for the kids. I'm REALLY liking the shirt.....the kids will go wild.(did I memtion I have 4?)

Those albumes at 1st glance looks like boobs, so there's a sexual undertone. ummm nuts on boobs...kinda symbolic.
You know your clients. If you don't like it, they won't either. You mentioned arabic music...I think of bellydancers.

The song in that bollywood music video used to be really popular here but then it got replaced by the 'feliz navidad holiday remix'. confused

wtf is up with the squirrel fetish?

it looks very much like a deranged country-western thing. I would expect people with ugly cowboy boots, way too tight jeans, and goodness knows what else to be wearing it.

comfort

sorry.

I LOVE the design, purely because it is so random (and that is a current trend) but it doesn't suit your music at all. Put it on a T-shirt and I'll buy one thumbs up!
