The rudeness of young people and their neverending sense of entitlement drive me to distraction.

Someone we just offered a job turned it down because she thought she should make 45-50K dollars a year -- to start! And she has no professional experience in the field! eek

I felt like smackin' her upside the head and telling her, "Do you know how many years I worked before I made that much?!" Kids today... disbelief

I consider it my sworn duty to take the piss out of 'em whenever I can. I gotta counteract more than 20 years of them being told they fart roses.

I don't consider turning down a job offer that's not to your liking rude. lol

I'm with the non-manners haters on this one. nod People can be so rude these days. confused

Manners maketh man, isn't that what they say? They're such a small thing, relatively, but can have a MASSIVE effect. Sad as it sounds, I almost get taken aback when someone gives me a friendly smile in public or a door is held open for me. It seems so rare these days whereas, not that long ago, people showed a lot more respect to others. I despair when I see the way some people behave - I swear I should be living in the 1950s. lol

You want to see a lack of manners, ride the NYC subways. MFers push you, bump into you, hit you with those stupid backpacks, jab you with umbrellas without saying sorry or excuse me. It's not limited to young folks either.

I agree! My mama taught me to use my manners for a reason. People who don't understand the concept of "time and place" get on my nerves as well. Some of my friends in college really embarassed me. They would say the same vulgar, obscene things they would say in private while we were in a public place surrounded by children. While I probably would have laughed if they said these things in a bar or at their home, I was mortified to see parents turn our direction and give the evil eye. My friends were completely oblivious. I didn't go out with them after that.

I think this is the same for almost any city's subway systems. I depise backpacks and cell phones on the public transit. I get furious with people who believe their bags and packages are entitled to a seat while humans stand.

I also blame the parents for the lack of manners in younger folk these days. My sister in law has two kids and I don't think I've ever heard either of them say please or thank you for anything. My girlfriend's kids say it all the time simply because she makes them and now it's instilled in them. Polite kids are such a pleasure to be around.

We could make a 20-page thread on idiot cell-phone users on the bus/subway. Why do they have to talk so damn loud?

I think that they think it's a status symbol to talk on your cell in public. Perhaps I'm wrong, but many people talk quite low and don't bother anyone and then you have those that have to be sure that everyone can hear them. I swear they make up shit too. One girl went on and on about the money she made over the weekend doing god knows what. I got the impression she was stripping and doing a little oral on the side. She was disgusting and she didn't care that kids were around.

I feel its a bit unfair to specifically characterise one sector of society as being rude Meow85 just because you consider yourself part of it. People are rude and inconsiderate regardless of how old they are.

You should always be polite to people.

It's definitely a surprise to see people displaying manners or courtesy of any kind. Hence, why I started up this thread. I was so completely bowled over by my friend's behaviour. Someone who, until very recently behaved like, well, a teenage boy.

I do find myself getting pissed at ppl in general for their lack of manners. I also get upset when ppl are not considerate and put themselves in some one else's shoes before they judge.
I get upset when ppl do not treat others as they would like to be treated. That goes for general manners as well as things like friendships ans relationships.

I go out of the way to be polite, but most ppl my age are have NO manners or any etiquette. my brothers have to be slapped by my mom before they even think of giving their chair to an elderly or pregnant woman. its just really appaling to me.

I started this life rule I try to follow: "do one nice thing every day." thats it and alot of ppl are surprised or think something's up when people try to help them, which just shows the curtesy level in todays world. so when I hear ppl overseas say Americans are rude- I can't necessarily blame them.

It's not just you guys. Folks north of the border here are starting to catch up. confused

No idea. He's got a new girlfriend and he'll be 19 soon, so maybe one or the other or both had some affect on him. Either way, I like it. smile

I didn't really mean it so much as a blanket statement, but from what I've seen people my age really are worse than others.

People my age have no manners. I can't claim to be perfect, but sometimes I'm appalled by the behaviour of teens and twenty-somethings. No one my age ever says please, or thank you, or watches their tone of voice. Society in general, really, is suffering from a complete lack of common courtesy.

Definitely. nod Walking around city centres drives me nuts lol - people who dawdle, dart out of shops without looking, invading your space, banging into you, letting doors close on you, barging past, stopping right in front of you... disbelief Again, I sound like a miserable old git lol but if people were more considerate of their surroundings, and how they affect other people around them, these things wouldn't happen as much.
