At least the right hand side of the picture does. i think if i looked good in those iceland pictures, it was because: a) the air is AMAZINGLY clean over there and i could literally hear my pores sighing whenever i walked outside; b) i was happy, which always does weird things to my appearance; c) due to jetlag or whatever, everything i ate in iceland went right through me like a rock down a well ;and d) posing with sexy nubile icelandic young'uns makes me look sexy too (that's what the brochures said anyway).

Dude. The one thing I hate about the gym is how you feel when you're not going. I haven't been for three days and I feel like my body's decomposing. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

I woke up fat. Over the past 1 1/2 years I've been trying to "bulk up" on muscle, sort of like a JoeyCoco thing. The problem is that for every pound of muscle I gain, I gained a pound of fat with it. I've gone from a 33 inch waist to 36, at 220 some odd pounds. And though I'm slowly losing the fat again, I'm scared that I'll lose the muscle along with it. So I'm trying not to lose it quickly. This shit is tricky. Eat less carbs in the evening, and drink a good protein shake before you go to bed and for breakfast, too. Your body uses up a lot of protein while you sleep and you sort of cannibalize on yourself if you don´t make sure to get enough protein. Most people think we eat too much protein anyway but I really doubt that, unless you really eat three cans of tuna and some eggs everyday...most people think they´re getting enough ( 1 gram for each pound of bodyweight) but they find out they´re wrong when they really sit down and do the math. A protein drink high in casein and albumin is good in the evening because your body needs more time to break it down and digest it, which is a good thing. Whey is something for the first one to three hours right after a workout because your system digests it much quicker. Then again, you said you can´t tolerate whey ...what about casein ? Does anyone know how I can lose the fat without losing so much muscle? I don't want to go back to were I was 2 years ago, were I was thin/medium, but with a so-so frame. I want a muscular, butch ass frame. Just as I said above , make sure you´re getting high quality protein...I used to eat tons of tofu and drank tons of soy protein shakes back when I was a strict vegetarian up until 2003 but now that I´ve changed my diet I feel and look much better. My profile pic is from my skinny days...it took me years to build up some serious muscles without getting fat, and I think eating right is just as important as wokring out heavily...remember , it´s 50% eating right , 25 % working out, and 25 % your state of mind. Soy definitely didn´t do anything for me.Eat some eggs at least. I used to know this dude who would eat at least TEN eggs a day, including the yolk . I can hardly eat one egg a day, so I stick with different protein powders and I eat a lot of cheese, especially Italian dry, hard cheeses such as parmesan, low in fat, high in protein. Or eat more fish. Oy. My body is a premadonna. I really need to figure out how this shit works and nip it in the bud. juicey butt edit [Edited 4/10/07 7:29am] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! PS: I forgot something...make sure you get a lot of easy to digest carbs right after a heavy workout because your muscles need the sugar in order to refill the glycogen depots in the tissue. You can combine the carbs with some good quality protein, for instance by adding a ripe banana to your protein shake.
If you can´t tolerate other shakes than the soy based ones, then you should at least make sure to fill your glycogen depots, with a banana , for example....and then, afterwards, you can drink your soy shake or whatever. drinking enough water is also essential for muscle growth since your muscles consist largely of water " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

The key is to lose fat while losing as little of your muscle as possible (acknowledging that you will lose some no matter what you do). That requires eating a lot of lean protein, few carbs, and very little fat. There's a really good book called Body Rx by Dr. Scott Connelly that takes you through three six-week cycles (actually, four if you include maintenance) -- including one very similar to a body-building "cut." There is no standard cardio in Scott's program -- he achieves it all with his weight-training routines. (Which is great if, like me, you hate, loathe and detest traditional cardio. ) Anyway, there are workouts geared to each phase and the diet changes for each. The cut is intense. You will be absolutely exhausted...and absolutely starving. (When you're losing fat, you are hungry all.the.time.) But, hey -- as Fernando said, "It is better to look good than to feel good." Right? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I say don't ever try to gain weight, even muscle. At some point you won't be able to maintain your workout regimen and it will all turn to fat. You need a balanced routine that you can stick to, and not try to make quick changes.
I think weights are okay (and they'll bulk you up), but I wouldn't ever deliberately try to gain weight (again)--like with food or supplements. And keep up aerobic stuff, but you already do, right? My Legacy

getting older is making me skinnier! in the past three years i went from a 32" waist to a 30"! though you couldn't tell by looking at me since easter. i had to wrap curtains around me this morning and tie them together with bungee cords because i can't squeeze my heft into any of my work clothes.
