Donating to Charity

Does anyone give money to charity? Do you know a good site for this? I want my money to go to starving children or adults....and no one else.

i donate stuff all the time to my local charity shop. i don't know if that's any great contribution to society, but it beats just throwing perfectly good stuff in the garbage. plus, i shop there too sometimes, so it's just my contribution to the food chain of crap. shrug

I donate clothes and appliances locally. But my favorite charity to give to is my local ASPCA.

Kevin Bacon started this 6 degrees website thing where you can see celebrities and the charity organizations they started.

how abt donating to a museum or a historical landmark? historical landmarks and sites somewhat depend on donations to keep the place up to code and whatnot.

Does it? All I see is a box you can check if you would like monthly updates on UNICEF's work. confuse

Other than that you just fill in any amount in the box at the top, that's all.

Unicef is a great organization which has done a lot of good through the years, so I'm sure your money would be used wisely.

Oh wait, you mean the link on the left? Sure, you could use that if you want to, but if you don't you can simply use the form that is right there on the page I linked to, and that allows you to donate a one-time sum of your choice.

We have a dentist here in santa barbara that donates his services to poor children in afganistan. He has a mobile dentist chair and everything! He packs up and heads out each summer. All year long he accepts shoes, any size. He takes them with him to give away. So, I always keep an eye out for shoe sales. Always makes my heart feel good when I can buy some little tennis shoes for the kids.

I do the United Way payroll deduction thing and have given to Minnesota AIDS Project through various means (events, etc.) for years.

I also give regularly to NOW (Nat'l Organization for Women) and HRC (Human Rights Campaign), but that's political, not charity...

I make a monthly payment to cancer research. I also try to take my clothes to charity shops and make various donations to people collecting on the streets.

I have a hard time not handing out my slice of pizza, muffin or whatever I have on hand to someone on the street that looks really down and out. I once gave a lady a whole chicken I had just bought at the grocery store for my chicken salad!
