so what's more frightening?
the body in a casket or the skeleton in the hospital bed? or wait. how about the meth that put him there?

I'm sorry, but I just don't find addiction stories even remotely interesting. People fuck up their lives in all kinds of ways. (It's that pesky "free will" thing.) I feel sorry for their families -- who are usually innocent bystanders. But that's as far as it goes. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

That's a great attitude. I have watched as many of my family and friends destroy their lives as well and I understand the frustration but you never change anything by never trying to understand and get to the root of why they chose that path..... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

S [Edited 4/9/07 12:44pm] ah, i understand what you meant now. i don't believe it's shock value. i believe it's a story that needs reporting. turn the channel if you don't wanna watch. don't click on the thread if you don't wanna read about it. simple as that.

Exactly. My sister recently died of a drug overdose. It's been horrible for my family. I've talked with a few drug counselors who have helped me understand what my sister's life/death must have been like for her (not the way we see it from the outside) and it's really helped a lot. So, I do think there is a lot of value in telling those stories. Also, it may help scare some people from trying drugs in the first place.

Hell, compared to what I see at work, that video is tame. What needs to be filmed and put in a documentary are the battered family members. The beat up spouses, the infants tossed around like a basketball to the point of brain damage and death.
Meth and crack are notorious culprits. [Edited 4/9/07 18:25pm]

i know the heart attack at 24 bit shocked the hell out of me
and i don't relish the thought of spending two years in a bed slowwwwly dying it is such a terrible waste. and yes, the families suffer terribly. ones who know me know that i like to say knowledge is power there are lots of younger people who post and lurk here so if watching that clip gives someone a little more information about what they might have considered something that couldn't harm them then fantastic.
