http://en.wikipedia.org/w...r_Çağrı

Similarities with the UK television character Kristo (who evolved into Borat) were noted as soon as Çağrı's website became famous in 1999, particularly his facial hair, formal wear and his use of the catchphrase "I like sex", which featured in Sacha Baron Cohen's TV shows in 1997 [3]. Çağrı has asserted that he was the main inspiration for British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen [4], when Cohen created his foreign-reporter character for Channel 4 television (called variously, Kristo, Borat Karabzhanov, Borat Dutbayev and Borat Sagdiyev), in spite of the fact that the earliest appearances of these characters predate Çağrı's website by several years.
In the feature film of the same name, Borat not only uses Çağrı's "You can stay my home" catchphrase in the introductory scenes, but also poses during a game of ping-pong in revealing red shorts, referencing two of Çağrı's famous shots. However, Borat had regularly invited viewers to stay with him in broken English before Mahir's website became famous.
Çağrı has announced that he is travelling to London to receive an apology from Baron Cohen, and to receive money for the use of his likeness in the film. He said, "the world knows he is copying Mahir. I am not saying this — the world is. I have received so many e-mails from people in the United States who tell me he is imitating me." He added, "the bombshell is going to fall. (Cohen) is making money by using me."[5]
Despite Çağrı's accusations, in Borat's alleged 1997 "Guide to Britain" (Two years before Mahir's website existed), the Kazakh reporter speaks with broken English, wears his famous grey suit, has his trademark mustache, invites his audience to stay with him in Kazakhstan and proudly announces his catchphrase, "I like sex." [6] [7]However, this conflicts with several sources which state that the guide was actually written in 2000.

This is not just a pity post!

He really does seem like Borat, only not a deliberate joke. However, your earler post seems to indicate that he copied Borat, not the other way around. And perhaps Borat simply picked up on things that real people actually do (barring keeping their poop in a bag). So maybe it's a coincidence.

I'm surprised, Borat has been around since 1997? I know he did stuff on UK news before Da Ali G Show. But that's a long time ago. I first heard of him on '04 or so.

Where exactly is Mahir famous, though? Seems like he's a celeb of sorts, but I've certainly never heard of him.

Oh man, they've really messed up his website. disbelief
It used to be a lot funnier when it was just his private page (before he got famous) and it was all random ramblings and pictures instead of all those banners and pictures of him posing with the women and all that. Now he's become aware of what is funny about him and he's just trying to earn money off of it. neutral

nod I remember looking at it at work (back when that was the only place with internet) and howling with laughter at the haplessness of it.
