I miss everything about Philly, every time I go back to visit it's like I never left.

As far as food. I miss the hoagies, steak sandwiches and water ices. If you eat these anywhere else but Philly it just ain't the same.

From the Chicago Area to Southern Texas
I miss the following:

Dunkin Donuts Coffee - I can't stress this enough. I'm addicted.
Spring - There is no spring here. It is just hot all the time.
Laying in the Grass. The grass here is basically weeds.
The Chicago skyline. The biggest city nearby is San Antonio - 4 hours away.
Michigan Avenue
AM talk radio
And of course, all my friends

What I miss when I´m away from Germany:

-clean streets, cleanliness
- probably the best tap water in Europe ( at least where I live )
- fresh, clean air
- efficiency
- shopping without being hassled

What I miss when I´m away from Turkey/ Agaen westcoast:

- the tastiest fruits and vegetables I´ve ever eaten
- the Agaen sea, the beaches, the bays
- the smell of thyme, basil and the sea
- fig trees, olive trees
- warmth and hospitality of my relatives
- drinking tea all day
- the sunshine

What I miss about the USA/MN:

- the friendly people ( seriously !)
- the idea that anything is possible
- the ambition
- cheap gas ( we pay three times more for gas, ca. 4 US dollars for a gallon )
- wide streets and roads
- strolling in supermarkets at 3 a.m.
- being far away from Europe and all its baggage
- the interesting variety in fast food chains lol

What I miss about the UK:

- the polite people, especially the elderly
- Kingsmill toast bread
- PG tips tea
- multicultural London
- Brighton/Hove....I just love it.
- Sunday papers
- British TV....so sophisticated.

And my old love, the Netherlands, haven´t been there since ´98:

- Chocomel ( but now you can buy it here, too )
- vla
- good skunk
- the progressive, liberal state of mind ( seems to have decreased a lot)
- Groningen and Amsterdam
- the sea
- seafood
- good Dutch cheese

- when I was in Argentina I missed japanese and asian food so much, they just don't have it over there, and it made me realise what an integral part of australian cuisine it is.

- wherever I go I always miss my own bed and my 6 pillows

I don't think I've ever been away long enough to be homesick. When I travel I'm generally happy to come home, to see my kitty, to tell my friends of my adventures, to get back to my own bed, my own bathroom, etc. But I've never been gone so long as to actually miss anything at home.

Don´t know what it is in Philly, but in Germany it is a small plastic tube filled with a frozen beverage/sweet liquid, and it comes in various flavors such as apple, cherry, lemon and cola. There are variations, though. Some are sold in plastic cups, and you are supposed to either suck on it or wait til it thaws a bit and drink it or eat it with a spoon.

How could I forget THE GERMAN FOOD AND BEVERAGES ?

- Mohnbrötchen ( my favorite, rolls with poppy seed )
- whole grain bread
- coffee
- fruit juices ( the real deal )
- cheesecake ( Käsekuchen ) . IMO, Germany´s cheesecake is DELICIOUS ! Just the right kind of sweetness, not too sweet.
- Kölln´s muesli
- frozen berries...they make some mean frozen berries over here... lol

I have not been "home" in many years and actually I have been gone so long that it is no longer home.
But I do miss the beautiful rolling hills, tress, the Chesapeake Bay, the state forest that was my backyard for 6 years.

Where I have lived for the past 23 years has never felt like home so I will be glad when I leave.. biggrin
