US comics you've liked or loved lately

Hi, i wanted 2 know 'bout the comics u've liked the most lately (4 those of u who read comics.)

My faves would b :

- "Ultra" & "Girls" by The Luna Brothers (Image): lotsa humor, revolutionnary storytelling, amazingly funny dialogues that sounds "real."

- "Identity Crisis" by Brad Meltzer & Rags Morales (DC): Possibly the best super-hero comic-book ever, a real "study" of a super-heroic/meta-human community, its codes, the way it works... A real work on old characters' psychologies & inter-relationships... A brand new look on old characters & a great oh so great detective story.

- "Daredevil" by Brian Michael Bendis & Alex Maleev (Marvel): I haven't read the whole run yet but this is also a revolutionary take on the super-hero genre. Bendis is a master of deep dialogues, underlined substories, hyper-realism & i think he did even better than Miller on Daredevil. Alex Maleev almost-photographic drawings are also wonderful.

- "The walking dead" by Robert Kirkman (Image): If u like George Romero's zombie movies then u've got 2 read this! Kirkman has done the perfectzombie comic-book, treating the subject from a very "human" perspective & making US (instead of the living-dead) the bigger danger 4 each other. I've only read the 1st volume yet but i can't wait 2 read the others...

There's been a lot of others that i've liked but these r my real, real favorites of late.

What about u?

i've been reading the collected anthologies of "ex machina" recently - the one about the superhero who becomes president? it's got some really good writing. it's more of a pop culture story than superhero beat-em-up stuff. it's kind of like a less-cynical "transmetropolitan" (my favorite comic ever).

X-Factor by Peter David (Marvel). He took a group of C-level characters and made them three dimensional and likable. The stories are very smart and not cliche-ridden at all.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer by Joss Whedon (Dark Horse). I've only read the first issue, but damn, it's good. Joss officially continues the Buffy TV series after the season seven finale from a few years back.

Phonogram (Image) looks really cool. But I'm wating until the series is complete to read the whole thing. It's supposedly about magic beings representing different types of music or something. I couldn't resist the covers really.

This is one of the greatest titles in the history of comics. I actually stopped reading after the origin of David issue, but I'm still buying it. Once it's over, I plan on reading the entire series from beginning to end since the David origin thing takes place right before the first issue.

"Planet Hulk" is the best Marvel storyline I've read in a long time. It's leads into this summer's "World War Hulk".

www.dream-chocolate.com I like most of them, but especially the Disposable Boy series.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Thank god for Garth Ennis. Marvel DESTROYED the Punisher character before he resurrected him. This is the way the character should be written. nod

Duh. I didn't make the initial connection that along with 'The Boys', Garth is on Punisher too. All these new names I have to remember!

standard for the mighty house of M. rolleyes Venom was an incredible character when he was scaring the shit out of MJ, but then they made him some hand of vengeance for the innocent.... rolleyes I won't even go into the overboard facial features that got exaggerated over the years....

snake pit is one of the two comix that i read on a regular basis. the other one i regularly read is omaha the cat dancer, i'm trying to get a hold of all the compilation books that contain all the issues that were out so i can get the full story (it plays out like a soap opera).

yeah, and it's like crack. evillol a friend of mine hipped me to it when i was in job corps. she let me borrow an issue one day and i read it...it blew my friggin mind. not just the explicitness of it, but the storytelling and artwork (reed waller's one of my fave comic artists now) got me hooked.

altho i am a DC fan, Identity Crisis was dreadful and convoluted.

Civil War was much better. the story was simple, the art was good and it didnt draaaaag on like 52 has.

i stopped getting 52 around issue 17.

but the first 4 or 5 issues of the new Aquaman were pretty cool.

Image Comics' Godland is good stuff.
Nothin' really stands out from Marvel or DC...they've both gone WAY downhill lately. So bad, that I've started finding comics from the Silver Age and reading those...remembering how good comics used to be.
I've started getting IDW's Transformers...just something I've never let go from my childhood lol.
