You Tube banned in Thailand!

'Lese majeste'?

Pffffft! neutral

Can someone go to You Tube and find the video featuring the King's picture being stepped on and spray painted?

Thanks.

It features, I think, people stepping on the Thai King's picture and spray painting a picture of his face. I would really like to see what all the fuss is about.

Yes. They asked Google to remove the video and they refused so now if I try to go to You Tube I'm redirected to a page for the Ministry of Information and Technology.

It's ridiculous. First a Swiss man gets jailed for 10 years for drunkenly spray painting on an image of the king, and now this.

It's crazy. King was born in the US anyway and isn't the God he's treated as here.

Right from the start his reign has been fishy. I mean, his own brother, who was to be king, "accidentally shot himself in the head" and so he became king. falloff

I was on a Thai chat site chatting about it and got banned as I'd failed to read chat rules number 1:

1. Any bad comment about The King of Thailand will be resolved in a ban for the participant. ( Based on Thai Law )

Oops. lol

There's more though. The Swiss guy jailed as I said earlier, plus forums like Mangosauce.com getting shut down briefly as a capability test by the government just in case there's a state of national emergency. Last time they took over the TV but forgot the internet and they don't plan on making that mistake again.

There's all kinds of censorship going on at the moment.

US book about the King banned:

http://travel.nytimes.com...iland.html

See here for something more enjoyable - bloody prudes!:

http://www.mangosauce.com...harity.php

There are already 44,000 websites banned in Thailand according to a Hong Kong based research group. The pretense is stopping children having access to porn, but apparently 11% of the sites are banned owing to 'national security'.

This country is ridiculous.

I was just reminiscing with a friend about our stupid get-togethers back in the day and it reminded me how hilarious this place is.

First story was one I've told before here, I think, about how we took a short drive down to a man-made lake near my friend's condo. It was about 2am and we sat on the car and had a few beers. Cops pulled up really fast in a pick-up truck and came screeching to a halt. They jumped out and started searching us, all the while shouting in shrill voices "Gun? Drug?". I couldn't stop laughing. I told the one searching me not to steal anything from me and used a few puns in Thai (I don't recommend this behaviour - I was young and dumb) and he just took it. They stopped searching us and in perfect unison ran over to the lake and started pissing. They finished at the same time and simiarly in unison ran back to their pick-up truck and sped off, tires spinning on the dirt. It was so... bizarre. falloff

I just can't imagine cops back in the UK doing that and I'd never dream of back chatting a policeman. I'd feel a bit scared even if I knew I hadn't done anything wrong.

Another thing we reminisced about was when my friend took a right turn where he wasn't supposed to and a cop pulled us over. He was riding this little 90cc moped or something and was sweating horribly in his overly-tight uniform. He asked my friend for his license and he just said he didn't realise you couldn't take a right turn and that he was sorry. The policeman asked for the license again and my friend said as bluntly as you like 'no, I'm not giving you my license because I'll then have to go and pick it up later from the station and I don't want to do that'. The cop persisted for a couple of minutes and my friend just continued to say no and eventually the cop just walked off. lol

Like I said, ridiculous country.

See this...

from mango sauce.com - http://www.mangosauce.com...harity.php

...In this case, tasteful nude photos of 32 models and celebrities were to be auctioned off with the proceeds going to Aids victims...

"I would like them to cover themselves," said Prisana Pongtadsirikul, secretary-general of the Office of the National Culture Commission. "Being naked is not beautiful."

rolleyes

Can't we have anything good anymore?

Ousted PM Thaksin Chinawatra recently funded a new TV channel called PTV (Peoples' Television), but it was blocked here by the interim government as it was unlicensed. It's common knowledge that the interim government, however, has its own unlicensed channel. falloff The protests against PTV being blocked nearly caused the government to declare a state of national emergency. Can't wait till Songkhran festival next week. There's bound to be trouble. I'll not be going out at all for 3 days.

my grandma lives in the middle of nowhere, on a farm in the middle of sweden. Near her place is this!

"King Chulalongkorn Day"
2006-07-19

Visit in Utanede
July 19, 1897, King Chulalongkorn of Siam (present-day Thailand) visited Sweden and Ragunda municipality. He had got an invitation from the Swedish/Norwegian King Oscar II to the International Art and Industry Fair in Stockholm and he accepted.

Northern Sweden
King Oscar also wanted him to see other parts of Sweden than Stockholm, and since the Swedish sawmill industry was interesting for King Chulalongkorn, he chose the middle part of northern Sweden. There was beautiful scenery with bright summer nights and impressive waterfalls. King Chulalongkorn was also interested in the modern Swedish traffic, both on water and on land.

Memorial Buildingg
Almost exactly one hundred year later, the construction of a memorial building in honour of the King was commenced.

There is a Thai restaurant in there, but my grandma hasn't tried it, since she only eats potatoes.

Another recent story. This Thai actress caused a stir at the equiv. of the Oscars.

Again, from mangosauce.com. http://www.mangosauce.com..._dress.php

No one remembers who won the 2007 "Thai Oscars" because big-titted Thammasat student, Chotiros Suriyawong, 22, stole the show in a few scraps of black satin held together by a shoelace.

Corrupt politicians and murderous gangsters are seldom brought to justice in Thailand but authorities are always quick to act if a pretty girl is photographed in a sexy dress. Khun Chotiros barely had time to remove her makeup and purchase a frumpy cardigan from the charity shop before she was hauled up before Thammasat's disciplinary panel.

While their Western counterparts spend the academic year consuming illicit drugs and spreading Chlamydia, Thai university students are expected to behave like they're still at school. For breaking this unwritten rule, Khun Chotiros was sentenced to fifteen days of community service, reading to the blind.

If anyone needs to contact me over the next couple of weeks, I'll be hanging around Thammasat's main campus carrying a white stick and a pile of erotic fiction.

Ok, so perhaps she should have shaved first, at least. lol
