NWF said: Oh, I guess because I'm just another fan or passerby, he could just give me the cold shoulder like that.
So I'm walking down 57th st. and he and some girl he was with was coming my way. So I say, very politely, "Hello, Alec Baldwin, right?. He then turns his head and then proceeds to keep stepping. I don't know if he was trying to be cool or whatever, but all I wanted was to say hello. Dickhead. Man, some celebrities can be some real assholes sometimes. what an ass I don't like him too much

i always ignored celebrities when i bumped into them in NYC, just because i learned that's what you're supposed to do. i don't know if that's correct or not - it's just how i was "trained" when i moved there, ha.
one time lauren hutton left her purse in a deli and we ran down the street to give it back to her. other than yelling "MISS HUTTON! MISS HUTTON! LAUREN HUTTON!!!" until she turned around, we didn't really acknowledge knowing who she was. she was nice. then again, we had her purse.

"remember that time we went to brunch and had a really good talk and eric bogosian was sitting right next to us? remember that album release party we went to and got really drunk and rosie perez was there?" stuff like that makes for cool memories.

or the celebs who fuck you AND pay you.. Yeah, the nice ones are cool and I'll always appreciate and respect them for that. I remember meeting Jerry Seinfeld at my job, and he was very humbled at the fact that I told him that his sitcom was one of the greatest of all time. See, there are some celebrities that are sweethearts. It's all in the approach really. Like I remember when I was kicking it with Green Gartside of Scritti Politti at his concert last year. No rock star egos, just a sweet sincere man. Funny you mentioned Bowie, since I know his drummer from his Berlin-era. He was slated to produce me and my band, but.... it never happened. I don't get it, people do what they do. He's not obligated to have a moment w/ everyone who pursues him, he'd never get on w/ his day I'm not saying he "should have" done that, but I understand the response. Maybe I'm an asshole too But I mean, if you're someone who enjoys that celebrities work and it puts money in their pocket and stuff, then they should be greatful that a fan is saying hello. I saw Michael Stipe and Mike Mills of REM w in the Village.
They were in full "yeah-we-know-you-know-who-we-are" mode, but I wasn't like "OMGz I loovvvve Automatic for the People OMGzzz!!!" But the Village is so cool everybody else was just like not acknowledging it's Michael Stipe standing on the street smoking a cigarette. I dunno, it's pretty corny to acknowledge they're "like, famous." Guess that's just the L.A. in me? I was in a crepe shop in the LES and Mike Myers walked in and it's kinda corny how people were reacting to him. He caught my eye and we smiled, but I was like whatever and continued talking to my friend and eating my apple crepe with powdered sugar. Movingrightalong. *DAMAGED*

Apparently Prince did the same thing to Lenny Henry in a nightclub. I dont know if he turned away and ignored him. Probably not I reckon.
I did ask Norwich City manager Nigel Worthington whether he was the Nigel Worthington when I saw him at some swimming baths. He was very amiable. There's Joy In Expatriation.

How cool is that! It's pretty neat seeing celebs, but meeting them is just not really my thing. I kinda like to keep them in their imagined/idealized state and not have a personal experience to muck it up. ... [Edited 4/4/07 8:08am]

You have to act like you don't notice them. I'd never get anything done if I stopped to talk to every celebrity I see here in LALA Land.
But David Lynch is pretty fucking cool when you talk to him.
