any musical performers here?

This might seem like a stupid question but for those of you who love to sing, dance or play an instrument in public, like performing at shows or community events for example, do you ever feel like you're a superstar when doing that like you're just as good as prince, mj, janet or someone big like that for those few moments? Or are you more relaxed about what you do? I'm usually humble about being able to sing or dance but I can't help but be inspired by these artists and try to give it my all as if I AM them, although I have my own style.

I used to get my performances to a pretty high level, refined like a superstar (except I wasn't THAT good LOL)

Now I just jam.

sounds cool! I'm sure you were good, sometimes we're our own worst enemy and others see us better than we see ourselves!

I just love refining something so much that playing my instrument becomes sublime, a part of me, and I am fully concentrated and expressing myself through the music every moment. That is, I can play from my heart and live the music emotionally and transcend the technique, be a master of the craft, but man it takes A LOT of practice to get to that level.

I did it once with a dance performance too, but man that took a lot of practice. Now I can never find the time.

I never had time to practice my routines but I had been practicing a lot of the steps for months & years over and over, so all I had time for was listening to the song on repeat and visualizing myself doing it and planning out in my head which step to do when and if I had to practice a certain move a few times I'd do it. And my freestyling seemed to work out well though a couple times I think it was obvious that I was tryign to think of what move to do next, but I was one of the winners for the competition so it was ok. That's why I like doing solo stuff instead of group stuff cause I tried to participate in a hip hop item a month ago but I didn't have time to commit to learning the routine and I couldn't stand the song anyways so I dropped out of it

Its more about the music than the show for me,
for most of those people like MJ and Janet its all about the show and they completly forget about or dont care for the musics worth

i am more of an actor than a musical person, but have done several musicals.

i am a decent singer, and a decent dancer. not particularly fantastic at either, but always got great reviews. the trick to it is really not as much in the talent as it is in selling it and putting the chracter behind it, as opposed to just singing or dancing.

i would NEVER want to be at the level of fame your examples are though. fame is not something i really want anymore. too much bullshit comes with it, particularly the loss of privacy and anonymity

As someone who used to love to sing and play an instrument in public, can't say I ever felt I was as good as Prince (he's a triple-threat who has few equals), but I certainly had as much talent as many people who have attained "superstar" status. Most "superstar" musicians are not brilliant technicians (in fact, some have a really rudimentary skill level).

I am a singer, and I try to participate in as many local events as I can (the ones that I hear about anyway) I am also a songwriter, but since graduating from college, I pretty much just focused on finding a job and trying to make it on my own. My music has been sitting on the backburner for a while, but I'm anxious to get out there and go for it. I love being onstage and the energy of the audience makes helps me embellish and improvise my during my performances. I sometimes get "stage envy" when I go to concerts and shows, expecially when I feel that I could do a better job than the person currently on stage. Is that bitchy of me? lol

not at all. that happens to me too. last time we saw RENT, the mark was so bad i wanted to shove him off the stage and finish the show for him.

same thing with me. I have to focus on my career right now and have very little time for things like these now. I last sang about 2 weeks ago and had to cancel another performance this past weekend because of work
