Mastiffs, huh? there are several kinds - the ones i've met have been very good dogs. they are protective breeds and can be somewhat neurotic, but if with a strong owner and lots of attention, exercise and structure, they can be great pets. Melissa probably knows more about their various health issues - seems to me they are prone to arthritis and cancer. are you considering getting one?

Well it is to soon just yet but I am investigating what sort of animal to get next.... I have a coyote problem up here so small is out... and a running or long distance walk companion would be good.

Mastiffs don't make good running partners - they're too heavy-set. i have some ideas for you; just orgnote me.
